Unless the country in question only consumes big Macs, using that index as a measure of inflation would be a terrible idea.

The main objective of the big Mac index is not to measure inflation, it's to measure purchase parity power by using the price of something that is available in almost every country and has a very standard quality.

This is just... wrong, to put it mildly. When it comes to serious financial modeling in big firms, everything from PDEs and stochastic calculus to cutting edge forecasting models and deep learning is fair game.

It's one thing to say that every country experiences inflation a few times in history, which might or might not be the case, depending on your definition of high inflation. Argentina's Consumer Price index rose 6.7% during March.

This assumes that the only possible cause of inflation is fiscal deficit monetization. This is just wrong. You could have scenarios where the central bank does not change policy but money supply increases because banks are lending more mone
