As a long-time Linux desktop user (but Ubuntu outsider) I have been watching this unfold for quite a while. I think that Mark Suttleworth is smitten by Apple and desperately wants to create a mostly free-software OSX-ish Linux distro. He co

I think there are some interesting similarities between Steve Jobs and Richard Stallman: Both are luminaries in computing with significant impact. Both attracted a cult-like following. Both often will speak their mind irrespective the feeli

Financial-risk models got us in trouble before the 2008 crash Is this accurate? I remember reading that all the alarms were going off, they were just ignored or the models were "adjusted".

I used a ruby script to auto submit to google bookmark. It took me three days. Google bookmarks has always been able to import from Delicious. It still works even after the crappy Avos rewrite.

I know LibeOffice is derided for its compatibility issues with MS Office (and its name, and its reliance on java, etc), but this type of thing seems pretty important to me. Free software is very important (IMO) but has severe deficiencies b

I think an important piece left out was how Amazon ostensibly built the platforms first, and then built their services on top of them to make sure they were robust and viable.

I've switched to using DDG in FireFox for the past couple weeks. It works fine for 80% of searches and occasionally surprises me with the zero-click box, but the other 20% of the time I have to use Google.
