There's no reference to "rockstar" in that ad. They seem to have set a somewhat high bar, but I can't see how that equates to looking for "rockstars".

Not only it's on-topic, it's even more amusing. At some point one of the teams was trying to score +1, but as the time passed it became safer to score -1 for a chance of +2 later; after deciding on scoring -1, the situation sort of reversed

Nitpick: when you're raising $8.6M you're not taking a ridiculous risk, your investors are. Arguably you then have less risk, e.g. you can reliably draw a salary for several years even if your company isn't yet profitable.

It's one thing to say that we shouldn't place so much importance in diplomas in the context of hiring. It's quite another thing to claim that "really smart hackers" will be bored if they take Computer Science at MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, Oxf

Hmm, I'm not sure if you're disagreeing with anything I said... when I wrote binary packages, I meant gitit's. If you just want to use it, you don't need need any dev libs.

If you just want to install the binaries, look for a binary package (Ubuntu's got one, so Fedora might have one too). If you really want to install from source, try cabal-dev (worked for me, see my other comment) or virtualhenv.

Hmm, I don't think that's the case. Could you elaborate on why you think ghc's version is the culprit? I've just built gitit using cabal-dev and ghc 7.0.3. So more likely it's just an old case of "cabal hell".

Wow. That's a lot of words for what's essentially just a back-of-the-envelope estimate. Besides, claiming that the fair value is $10 but you should only buy at $5 is really odd. You must be extremely risk averse to require a 100%/year retur

For what is worth, the job_seekers/opening ratio is usually published by the same agencies that provide unemployment rates. For instance, a quick search reveals that ratio was 3.5 in the US in May 2012 (down from 4.5 one year before), while

As far as Zynga stock owners and traders are concerned, it is by definition a surprise. If the loss had been expected then the price would have gone down earlier. Alternatively, one could argue "hey, I knew that a large loss was possible, b

Not sure if I understand your suggestion... I suppose if one wants to write server-side code in a Haskell-ish language then one would simply use standard Haskell plus Yesod or another web framework.

Hmm, I don't think that's a fair representation of what Taleb wrote. Dentistry is just a profession he chose to illustrate his point. A stereotype. And the point is not so much the high expected value of a dentist's income, it's the very lo

It's almost correct! Just replace "costs" with "outgoing cash", cross out "not including your salaries" (if you pay yourself a salary in cash, it is by definition included in "outgoing cash"), and replace "revenues" with "incoming cash".
