to me it is definitely "attention deficit", and it is a deficit in attention in two distinct ways: 1) it's a deficit in that i can't put my attention where i want to put it when i want to put it there. this is definitel

Some of us very much are, and we are ignored and/or attacked by people who don’t think about this quite often. This is such an interesting time to be in. Truly skilled developers like Rob Pike really don’t like AI, but many profession

We are much more than weights which output probable next tokens. You are a fool if you think otherwise. Are we conscious beings? Who knows, but we’re more than a neural network outputting tokens. Firstly, and most obviously, we aren’t LLM

Why not? GoDaddy is a valid domain registrar. The customer had dual MFA set up. The customer did all the right things. I’ve never heard of Godaddy making this kind of egregious mistake before. I’ve heard of some doozies, sure, but nothin

It really isn’t that hard if you frame it correctly. Computers are data processing machines with input and output. People today think they are vehicles to show design skill, and that’s not what they are. Focusing on design instead of util

This is why I kind of think that UI/UX should be handled by normal developers who do other things as well. People whose sole job is UI/UX must do things like this in order to stay employed, normal developers don’t. So teach norm

If reading exhausts you, don’t read it. The comment’s size is apparent before reading a single word, so you can avoid it if it is too large. “EEE” comments are short and exhausting and there is no warning visible.

people that say things like this are exhausting. exhausting . You make it so very easy to classify you straight into the "looney" bin. People said that WSL was EEE for Linux. when that didn't happen, people said that WSL

I'm curious why people think this is in the same ballpark as that something like a private investigator can do. This isn't spying at all. "oh no, they're aware of someone at the computer 19416146-F56B-49E4-BF16-C0D8B337

I have an open WiFi network provisioned which can’t reach the internet or even outside its own VLAN. Some tvs will automatically connect to open APs and use them, so I made my own which has the strongest signal of any of them. Otherwise, T

Software has incredible inertia compared to hardware. It is effectively trivial to buy millions of dollars of hardware to upgrade your stuff when compared with paying for existing software to be rewritten for a new platform.

Comp-sci people like repeatability when they want that and true randomness when that is desired. Things in between are rarely desired. In computing, things are much more useful when they behave in predictable ways. Even AI, many (most?) w

why else would you buy a mac to run VMs? arm64 hardware is cheap, x64 hardware is cheap and both of those can run as many Linux or Windows VMs as you have RAM to run.

Agreed. Even WinXP had goofy web technology tied into File Explorer (called “Windows Explorer” then, I believe). Win2K was just optimal, for me, for what I was doing at the time.

They are likely scared of people who would run MacOS virtual desktop farms, without also buying an appropriate number of Apple machines. That’s what I would be worried about if my primary source of income was hardware sales.
