Math didn't really "stick" for me until Calc 2. I'm not sure why--perhaps just maturity?--but at that point it really clicked.

I remain surprised that the US hasn't adopted more of this sort of attitude toward immigration. Historically it's a country that's always been about taking the best talent from elsewhere, so I remain baffled that it's so

Carmack still hasn't managed to let me down after all of these years, and I've probably tried to keep up with his happenings since the Quake days. He's a real inspiration. If you haven't read this book already, it's

I remain surprised that he operated from America, especially if he was truly as socially isolated as this post suggests.

How much leverage does giving up $80 million in BTC give one in a plea deal?

The idea of more fine art people moving into coding is definitely exciting for me. I've been trying to encourage my friends in the sciences to learn code too. We'll definitely all benefit from the expanded perspectives.

I am absolutely with you here, but it seems that a lot of people are using coffeescript in tutorials because it's become the de-factor convention for Rails apps. Fortunately for us, it's relatively easy to convert it to regular ja

It seems interesting precisely because this is common on consoles and hasn't previously been a thing for mobile, no? Perhaps this indicates yet another point of maturation for these platforms.

It's interesting that you're noting this, given the large number of officers who are ex-military. Seems quite possible to me that this is part of the reason for militarization of police forces in the first place.

Not working for me either, but I have to imagine the combination of image processing and HN front page isn't terribly kind to a webserver.

Thanks for making this! I'm wondering if you would mind elaborating on the choice of Silex over the other options out there. I've been playing a bit in this realm and would be glad to know how you came to that decision. Thanks aga

Am I missing it, or do they not have an option to see the PHP source of the website anymore? I always thought that was a neat feature to have for a language's website.

This is what I meant when I complimented Blizzard -- they updated WC3 and the expansion to Intel, and the intel installers can also be downloaded from battle.net now.

Just as sort of an aside because I'm thinking about one--why doesn't WC3 work? I still play it occasionally on a slightly older Air, so this is a troubling development. And on that note, here's a shoutout to Blizzard for doin

Not much in the short term. This sort of thing still isn't really suited to the sort of industrialized testing most commercial labs are undertaking. Maybe when the price comes down enough or they're reusable in arrays it might have more of

Looks nice. I'm using Soda now, but I'll give this a go. Side note: could someone remind me what that plugin is that makes the small 'code overview' view on the right side in the screen shots?

This doesn't mention images specifically -- anyone have insight into how that will work? I'm assuming they're not "active" content. Even Google's image search displays insecure images, so I'd hope they get a pass.

I'm a little confused about using a number pad to find names, as is shown in the graphic on the site. We're doing this on iPhone, so why use that old T9 mechanic? Looks like a solid effort, in any case.

I guess I'm not surprised, but I am pretty sad. I spent a lot of time in Lucasarts games as a kid. Fond memories. Thanks, Lucasart.

But I think this is exactly the point, no? Google has an API now, but who knows if it'll be there tomorrow. Google does not have a great track record at this point.

It never really made sense to have a charity on top of an IRC network anyway, I claim. Kudos to the volunteers who keep that place running so smoothly.
