Outside of FFI, is that mostly just for performance optimization? EDIT: IOW, why don't projects just eschew unsafe in order to truly leverage one of Rust's primary claims to fame?

Exactly. I keep wanting to fall in love with Lapce or Helix because I'm very interested in Rust and like the idea of an editor that I could contribute to, but my (neo)vim muscle memory is just too strong, even minor differences drive m

Certainly not all bugs, but in theory a segfault should be entirely avoided in safe rust, right?

I'm in very rural NW New Mexico on Starlink for the last 18 mo or so. I run a q 15 minute Fast.com speed test via HomeAssistant. Speeds are almost always between 60 and 80 mbps. Previously was on the only local competitor without dat

How / for what do you use it? I installed it a year ago on a HN recommendation and usually forget it's there, was planning to uninstall soon.

Very weird to hear this. I've used Firefox as my primary browser for the last 8 or so years and it has never once failed to restore my tabs on Linux, MacOS, or Windows. I'm usually cruising with about a dozen tabs on Windows and L

Wow, I remember when WikEM was just getting started (2009 it looks like). I was in medical school trying to teach people how to use the iPad, which was also brand new, and sharing (self-made) flashcards for SRS software via Dropbox. Surpris

You can patchelf to link to the host system libraries instead, or some projects can statically compile (inc musl) with less drama than usual, since your cross compilation toolchain can be part of your nix-shell.

I really like your design app's home page -- modern, inviting, disarming, and attractive. Did you build it? If so, can you talk a bit about what technologies you're using and the design process? If not, how did you go about decidi

Thanks for your input. Do you have any more detailed instructions for the ctime + checksum method? Would a zfs snapshot be sufficient?

For those just wondering "am I affected?", my understanding is: zpool get all | grep bclone > If the result is 0 for both bcloneused and bclonesaved then it's safe to say that you don't have silent corruption

I apologize for the moderately OT help request, but as Tweag has some great nix / rust content, and this is about debugging, I thought some HNers with relevant interests might swing by -- I am going nuts trying to get debugging working

Do you know of a "subset of Python" alternative? Would be interesting to have a natural bridge to "real" programming.

Your `flake.lock` will have the specific revision as well, even if you're using unstable or a release URL, so as long as this is getting checked into git then you have reproducibility that way as well.
