Do you mean that the reporting is less good recently? Or that the opinion pieces have been less smug leftie intellectual recently? Either way I take your point. There's been a lot of fodder for right-wing figures to attack the guardian

The reporting is good. It's more the opinion pieces that are notorious for giving off "smug leftie liberal intellectual" vibes.

Orwell's original essay says: > one should drink out of a good breakfast cup—that is, the cylindrical type of cup, not the flat, shallow type. The breakfast cup holds more, and with the other kind one’s tea is always half cold—befor

Orwell's detail on that point is as follows: > The milk-first school can bring forward some fairly strong arguments, but I maintain that my own argument is unanswerable. This is that, by putting the tea in first and stirring as one

I don't think we have particularly different mugs to what you'd drink coffee or herbal teas out of in the US. This is probably the most common shape you'd expect to see in someone's house: https://i.etsystatic

That comes from a 1946 essay by Orwell named "A nice cup of tea". He published it directly after the second world war when rationing and limited imports were a recent memory. But as you say it broadly describes how we've drun

A* can be tweaked to solve one-to-many shortest paths. You need to be careful about how you aggregate the heuristic function over all the targets [0]. Also, the performance improvements vs Dijkstra would practically disappear in many scenar

We are in agreement. None of this contradicts my original points. You can use BFS on a general weighted graph but you would have to search the entire graph to be sure of the shortest path. That's why no one does it.

Yeah. And A* simply generalises Dijkstra's algorithm by adding a distance heuristic to the priority expression.

The main criticisms appear to be that the film inflated Turing's contribution to the conception and development of Enigma. "Horribly skewed" seems like a bit of an overstatement.

Demographic risk pooling makes sense for moderate-risk individuals (despite being ethically horrendous). But for extreme outliers like this, the insurance company has a very high expectation that they're going to lose money in the comi

Well, you could have pulled jurmous up for digressing without accusing them of not reading the article. You're also free to criticise their comment for being emotionally charged, although in this case I would disagree with you.

Public surveillance should come with certain guarantees, though. Like being transparent about what data is collected and how/where it's stored. And purging the data after a fixed time unless it's involved in a case.
