Ya but for many cases there is a simpler way with less moving pieces. React just isn't KISS by nature, or maybe it is KISS for a certain style of problems but not others. It takes too long and has too many steps to do simple things. If

"Free thinking and well rounded" aren't things that seem to correspond with many current U.S college environments though. Colleges need to cost less. Much less. And they need to return to free inquiry with more education, and

I have a flock of chickens and yes this is true, the eggs taste much better. I assume this translates into increased nutritional quality. A partially free range diet with plenty of grass and insects and some good supplementation helps. The

Cashierless checkout counters didn't really reduce labor though. They just shifted it from a paid cashier to buyers doing it for free.

Agreed. I also grew up around cattle and eat beef regularly. No objection to cattle farming at all on my part. But I lived in Arizona and worked with native vegetation for a long time and saw the vast amount of damage cattle did the desert

This is true, but likewise something has the potential to be civilization ending without necessarily being conscious (by whatever definition you like).

I very much don't want to work in any professional setting where people are "open about their sexuality", hetero, gay or otherwise.

I was also a teenager in the 80's. Maybe it was more boring, not sure, but at least all the stupid stuff I did at the time wasn't documented on the internet. I don't know how I'd handle that.

In theory it is not socially unproductive at all (in practice much less so). The socially useful idea behind trading is allocation of capital. How do we determine which sectors get capital and which don't? How do we determine a price o

If I had an easy way I'd be a hero and likely pretty rich. I'm excited about vat grown protein (not plant based) over the long term, but in the short term I think we would get some traction from eating less feedlot grain fed meat

As a meat eater (with no intention of changing) I fully agree. How we produce meat is an extremely wasteful way of producing food. Changing this would free up tons of farm ground, water and fertilizer.

There's a time and a place for vigorous debate in support of your position, and a time and a place for listening non-judgmentally with an open mind. Most things don't matter all that much and aren't worth fighting about. Some

I didn't see that age was taken into account in the article. Simply says "adults". Many rural areas have young people that leave for better opportunities to urban areas, leaving the age distribution skewed older.

Yep this is it. We are seeing our evolutionary state manifest as we work to undo a few millennia of "repressive" cultural norms. The sad truth is most men are disposable (from an evolutionary point of view), much like the vast qua

Ever try to give a cracker to a seagull at the beach? It turns into a big problem, and not because you mind the loss of a few crackers. Some restraint and judgement might be in order with this approach (which I basically admire).
