is that really a lot of money for a company? don't you often spend that much in having your developers interview candidates and white board them?

this seems completely reasonable compared to endless whiteboarding?

i don’t think you understand his point at all. tinker until you find that thing. maybe keep tinkering after. a single source of income is very fragile.

agreed -- i really like python a lot for a first (and long term lang). it reads like english compared to C or Java and you could toss up a website or something like that very quickly with it.

the author is describing self medication as incremental failure. i think this is a mindset that can lead to more. in those moments you’re seeking relief, and viewing it as failure can just perpetuate shame and creates a vicious cycle.

the only reason they get so staunchly defended by the tech establishment is because of how much money they've made for people like paulg and the early investors.

maybe if you’re writing gradient descent, but not if you’re creating ETL pipelines.

i think ETL is the most timeless phrase because it's not tied to a trend. devops, data engineering, ML engineering, MLOps are all just lipstick on the pig.

again, i think these labels are useless. they just say you might understand the trendiest tool in the arena right now.

as someone who’s been in the industry for 20 years, and worked in ML data engineering at twitch, i think you’re just using new words (some are tools but so what) to describe moving data around and making it accessible to people who need it.

_you_ may never want Bach and Slayer in sequence, but Randy Rhoads, Eddie Van Halen, and I would. I do love this app, though. It presents everything in such a way that makes classical music more interesting, organizable, and accessible.
