BSDs traditionally don't have a stable syscall ABI. Windows never had a stable syscall ABI either. Almost only Linux does it... because the kernel and libc are maintained as separate projects in the Linux world.

Ok, on the I2C driver because you are saying that: A separate I2C driver was done because the PA Semi one is polled, not interrupt-driven. Polling to wait on a slow bus such as I2C is brutal. And we don't know if the original PA Semi h

It's still experimental for USB drives, worked well with a Samsung T7 for me. You'll need to explicitly bless the volume beforehand to boot from an install that was made on another Mac though.

In practice, you can almost never use that for desktop and tablet software. Most of your users would not be able to use the software otherwise, which is not a small problem.

Unlike a vanilla SIMD machine, you can diverge more cheaply when you need to. Scheduler flow control is different from a more conventional masks approach. The underlying implementation is still just lane masking and walking down separate fl

There is no execution mask from the ISA perspective, each thread has its own instruction pointer, and the hardware deals with which threads get executed, instead of a mask being set/unset. I don't know why you continue to argue th

You claimed that SASS was a SIMD instruction set, which is false. (through "NVidia's SASS on Volta is pretty clearly SIMD-instructions") Yes, thread divergence on GPUs can come with performance downsides and is a tool to use

Apart from tensor cores and some compressed instructions on small data types, they are not SIMD instructions. Each individual SIMT lane can actually diverge from the other on the underlying hardware. Active threads are dynamically mapped

It isn't a failure code, EINTR is a code that explicitly tells you to retry.

This EINTR is returned here for attempts at file accesses trapped by an antivirus/security layer, which can indeed take an undetermined amount of time, without the OS knowing how long that is... Probably was a hard choice to make for A

Of Linux *kernel* to userspace ABI development. The user-space ABIs are widely unstable. Try to run software compiled on Ubuntu 20.04 on 18.04 for example. On macOS, it's just the matter of using -mmacosx-version-min= to make sure that

Traditionally, Apple does not guarantee total ABI stability. They push betas instead to allow people to fix the issues, and then support older releases for multiple years. Yes, unmaintained software might or might not stay fully functional

OS X Leopard is very old in Apple terms, released in 2007 and being the last release to support PowerPC processors. (that even pre-dated the functions that you say above being standardised, they were just GNU extensions before) For Vulkan,

> with SIMD-instructions You assume so, for Volta onwards that's not true. Each SIMT thread on NVIDIA GPUs for Volta onwards has its own instruction pointer. And yes, it's scalar instructions at the ISA level.

Modern NVIDIA GPUs (since Volta) drop that pretence at the ISA level, each thread has its own instruction pointer there. Your GPU ISA is scalar, not vector on modern NVIDIA machines.

For an actual Thunderbolt display (contrasted to the DisplayPort alternate mode), the sole DisplayPort controller shouldn't be a limitation, as render offscreen + DMA to the device would work just fine in that case. Think that Apple di

It is not OSS if it does that, because you limit what the software can be used for. It becomes just source-available software. Being open-source to get a user base and then change the license isn't that great, they should have started
