The heat that came off my Panasonic GT30 was _crazy_. Replaced it earlier this year with an LG OLED after it mysteriously wouldn't power up one day. Still, lasted the best part of a decade which isn't too bad.

I was going to mention this one. It’s a great primer on how you actually just work with really basic concepts but tie a few of them together for interesting results.

When I was a kid, we had one of these things and it was triggered by a motion sensor. But we _also_ had a large taxidermied dog sitting in the window. Used to really trip people out.

I’m amazed anybody stuck with it after final cut X or whatever it was called. They should have just continued support for 7.

The camera in every mac I’ve owned have been garbage. I don’t understand how the same company that produces the iPhone can release laptops with such useless cameras in them.

I feel dumb even bothering to post this but that is not what the article is about.

Ohhhhh yeah! I couldn't quite put my finger on that but it's definitely there.

Elizabeth Holmes is facing 20 years in prison. Pretty smart.

Fuck me, they’re talking about using JPEG as an archival format before destroying the original. What is going on here.

+1. If it’s their laptop and you’re only using it for their work, no problem. If they’re expecting you to provide the hardware, then politely decline.

Yes, but they’re not. It was just a typo.

Played this today, it’s astonishingly good. After doing the chase sequence I just strolled around the city for a while. The level of detail is incredible.

Weirdly enough there’s one of the original versions of this toy in the toy box at our local pub and my three year old saw it and immediately knew that it was a phone. I have absolutely no idea how.

the one that does my head in is you can search for a file with spotlight but then the only thing you can do with the result is open it; you can't see what folder it's in or open the folder.

+1 for VDMX. When you understand the fundamentals of how to build stuff with it you can almost create your own version of most of the other software available on the market. Plus the vidvox dudes are legends.

Waaaay more lo-fi but this is one of my favourites from The Raid 2. I remember seeing the film and just thinking WTF how did that shot just work? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxb9xzAaYjM

I think it’s great. I love that switching weapons actually _feels_ different. There aren’t a lot of ways to innovate with “standard” consoles but I reckon this is a good one.

lol this was actually the first thing that crossed my mind

Yep. The Australian government made a big deal about how they were going to invest in hydrogen recently in an effort to signal that they’ve got some semblance of a future energy policy. The way it was spun was entirely based on the general

Yeah I was thinking that. So you have a mortgage on it or did you inherit it? If the latter, think pretty hard before you sell it, that is a crazy luxury that a lot of people will never be afforded.

I was going to reminisce about a print catalogue that we had in Australia when I was a kid, when I realised that it actually still exists, possibly even still in print form? https://www.innovations.com.au Lots of equally hilario

Awareness is half the battle. Maybe some of the items in this list are beyond the scope of what’s reasonable for a given organisation at a particular size or with limited resources, but being able to identify them early and plan them into

that was my experience a couple of times, but the last time i gave it a shot it was permanent, haven't looked back.

That’s amazing. They’re getting ridiculous in the big cities in Australia. You can’t avoid them.

In my personal experience, the class syntax specifically gets used very infrequently. Proper prototypal inheritance was more common “back in the day” but my own preference and I _think_ what a lot of others are leaning towards these days is

Yeah it’s one of those things that you just have to replace every X miles just to be safe. I got one replaced a couple of days ago because the service history was missing and I couldn’t tell whether it had ever been done. If your timing bel
