Thought about it overnight and this is what I have: To reason about the distribution of positives in the sample, we consider two limiting cases, then interpolate between them. The cases are: 1. All positives are clustered exactly together.

Just curious, can you expand a bit on the analysis? I see that by binary search you get O(log(S)) to identify a single positive, and naively rerunning search from the beginning P times yields O(P*log(S)). One can certainly do better by avoi

Randomizer speedruns are an awesome recent innovation in speedrunning, where the aim is to beat the game as quickly as possible (in a category called "true any%" [0]). For most popular speedrunning games, randomizers reward a comp

Very fair point. I definitely agree with you and the article in general -- demographics definitely deserves to be the #1 big important force that will shape the world.

I think it's possible in a technological sense -- my understanding is that we can produce enough food, and little technological development from where we are today is necessary to scale this to 12 billion people. It's distributing

I find opinions like these to be somewhat disconcerting. I don't know terribly much about demographics, but people who study demographics and economic development seem to fairly consistently agree that global population /will/

To avoid copying the training set you can increase the temperature at sampling time. This should trade off between accuracy (maximum likelihood) and quirkiness (more stochastic background).
