Wait a sec, this headline doesn’t pass the smell test. If you have no food, and no means to acquire food, you’ll die in short order. So are we saying 80% of Lebanon households will be dead in (however long starvation takes)? Or are we sayin

Apple might make no profit, but wouldn't the shareholders selling their stock back to Apple have to report the sale as capital gains? So (at least some) taxes would be paid on that money, just not by Apple directly.

“Right” is a strange word here, but there are absolutely cases where pedestrians have no right-of-way over cars. In these cases, you can be run over and you (or your family) will have no legal recourse against the driver. Zero, nada, zilch.

My neighbor’s first language is Spanish, but his grasp of English is very good. He went to work for Amazon corporate and said the first several months, coworkers would tear apart his documents on English issues. It worked. He quickly learne

This doesn’t in any way downplay your point, I just noticed this sentence and it made me think: “The idea that you run into a problem and use Google to solve it hardly constitutes skill development.” It’s probably natural for most folks on

I’ve switched over to DDG as my default search engine across all devices/browsers. It’s not as good as Google - but it’s perfectly good enough for 95% of searches. For that other 5%, it’s usually programming-related queries where every

This paragraph is strange; it’s an attempt at a compare but nothing is really held constant: > Training took 1.82 minutes with 256 fourth-gen TPUs, only slightly slower than the 0.39 minutes it took with 4,096 third-gen TPUs. Meanwhile,

Can anyone explain the “why does this matter” paragraph where the author seems to suggest that using branches in our program is a security risk? I know that branch speculation can be used as an attack vector if our program is the aggresso

I would challenge the assertion in your first line. To take an extreme example: Suppose we all agree that a horrible and unethical act (the Nazi’s medical experiments, for example) had lasting positive impacts for millions of people, tippin

Haven’t seen this on my M1 Mac mini; my wake times are faster than my monitors can wake. No performance issues immediately after sleep. Maybe desktop platforms sleep differently than laptops?

Talking less about visible diversity and more about diversity of backgrounds of folks on that trip. Mentors, especially, were an interesting crowd. Lots of experience to hear about in chats in the hotel lobby.

ArduPilot sticks out on this list - could be some cool projects there. I can’t speak for the current times, but Google’s Open Source Programs Office was, hopefully still is, staffed by some great people. I won the “pre-GSoC” contest, GCI, m

Thank you. I might be missing something, but not seeing an email in your profile here and not seeing anything plausible in internal search. I’m [redacted], I don’t mind that being public for a bit to avoid playing tag :)
