There's nothing wrong with being rich, or buying $6 bread. I think most of the hate is towards people who feel guilty about being rich. It's hard to empathise with people in situations that have simple solutions.

It was an odd acquisition considering IBM Watson's supposed sophistication. Why not just use Watson's components rather than acquiring a company that did roughly the same thing?

I use an x230 as my primary as well... but I can't seem to suppress my desire for a FHD screen. Do you know if any of the newer X-series are worth the money?

I hope it's only being flagged because it's not directly related to technology. Any other reason would make me quite sad.

While I don't approve with the way you expressed it... I agree that people could be a little more considerate of colorblind readers. I almost immediately give up once I see a scatter plot with red and green. It tends to get worse the s

I tried using the Galileo when it came out and was similarly disappointed. It claimed Arduino compatibility but had IO so slow that it couldn't interface with a DHT11 temperature/humidity sensor. In the end I got the feeling that

I just use it to upload daily encrypted backups of my mail-server (< 500MB per month)... so I wouldn't mind if they set some reasonable limit to encrypted uploads (say 1-10TB). I feel like anyone who's actually uploading person

Did you really read the article? The Hanford site was used in the 80s to produce weapons-grade nuclear material. An accident there is related to nuclear energy in the same way that forest fires are related to fireplaces.

I don't think that's what that article is about. The intercepted images from Lybian internet traffic and by some method akin to steganography he encoded Gaddafi's book, 'The Green Book', into the images.

Similar story. I learnt how to code because I wanted to become a hacker. Somewhere along the way... I learnt that it was far more satisfying [and legal] to actually make things rather than just break them.

I'm running a Thinkpad+Fedora combo and things couldn't be better. The sad reality is that software support will only be great if someone using the same hardware as you is actively participating in the distro's development. M

One major win for Instagram (Besides the just-pictures you mentioned) is that following isn't a mutual thing, so there's no social pressure to be 'friends' with someone even though you're not interested in the conte

I like this new page better. It gets straight to the point. I imagine readers coming in from HN would require a more technical intro, along the lines of this[ https://matrix.org/ ]. Try and explain why we should be excited ab

Not really. You're better off looking at introductory calculus and statistics. This book places more emphasis on discrete math. One good way to go about it is to audit an online course [like Andrew Ng's] and figure out what gaps y

Proteus can be very expensive if you want to go legitimate though. A single VSM license is upwards of $200. In most cases it's cheaper for a hobbyist to just buy the components and test out the circuit than to run the simulation. That

IO has been a big problem for the Raspberry Pi and cheap ARM boards in general. Until a board comes out with gigabit ethernet* and SATA/USB3* you'll probably get better value for money with conventional mobos. * Note: A couple boa

Fedora has really cleaned up the release upgrade process over the last couple versions. Transitioning from Fedora 24 to 25 was surprisingly painless!

+1 I started with F22 and have never looked back since! I also find dnf/yum a lot simpler to use than the apt-* ecosystem.
