You just need to have a standard data structure marshaling format. Lisp gives you the ability to easily structure data, but it doesn't enforce any single way to structure it.

Depending on the car, some have accessory power that stays on for five minutes or so after the ignition is killed, and most of not all have lines that power the security systems. I would tap into one of those.

No it wouldn't. Either hack a quick shim to start the interpreter or rely on the operating system to figure out how to run a script. The #! is there for a reason.

I was an OpenVMS sysadmin and C/COBOL/BASIC programmer writing code for mostly storing tons of data and sending it off to other places. Hopefully though, now that HP spun off the VMS engineering team and the talk of an amd64 port

I really like the System/161 simulator that they use with it. They made some good choices sticking to the simple R3000 MMU model.

I code in COBOL. I don't like it that people think it's dead or legacy because often times it isn't and that mindset keeps people from caring about security or using current best practices in COBOL code. Very important things

It's should be retired because it's old? That's a terrible reason to retire something. New isn't always better, just as old doesn't mean worse. Also systemd won't be making any appearances in BSD. The one thing

That's probably mostly it. Plan 9 doesn't really have that much in terms of features. It's greatest strength is in how they go together. Having everything as a file is about the only thing I can think of that unixes don

It is a cheap hack. Plan 9 is designed around 9P where FUSE is a kinda shitty but useful bolt on. Why they didn't just steal 9P instead of making FUSE is beyond me.

The actual elements of the lists are typeless basically. The easiest way to do this is that each car of a cons cell is just a pointer to a value (actually both are). Many lisps use tagged pointers where the tag stores the value or even each

It's awesome to see some plan 9 tools in there! I live on plan 9, and find unix annoying because of the differences in the "standard" tools.

Yeah there's a lot of that, but grep is like using duct tape to hold something together when you really should be using screws or so. grep can do everything, but its not always the best tool for the job.

It's far from nonsense. Everything that happens when you call a syscall nowadays is minimal compared to firing off interrupts to do the job. Memory operations are pretty cheap and the argument checking is probably only 20 or so instruc

Kernels generally aren't all that smart. They're usually dumb and simple programs that do things based on some average defaults that look okay and might work for most people. The kernel needs to be told what to do especially if da

This is going to end badly. It's going to grow and eventually be used to stifle dissenting comments and open discussion. The authors asking you not to discuss this publically is very telling.

Yeah lumen's ffi is fantastic. It's really simple and clear compared to like CFFI or so. Seeing that ported to/implemented on CL would be really cool.

Why don't we teach people the don't understand so they can make informed choices instead of preventing it entirely?

That's because cat is unixy. You can concatenate any file to any file with it. That doesn't mean those files are unixy, it means the program is unixy.

They're amoral entities that are effectively programmed to make the most money. So really they're working as intended if they do that shit because it allows them to make more money.

I use this a lot. My text editor (octopus) runs in it. Inferno is pretty interesting and very easy to code on, however the programming model takes getting used to.
