The downside with this approach is that I often want the element itself to define how much space is around it. When you conditionally include elements in a layout, I find margin more expressive and less cumbersome than changing the grid-tem

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make... basically everything we have will go to waste at some point. That does not mean we shouldn't reduce waste in the mean time. I'd wager that a large majority of iPhone owner

As a frontend dev I can give you a few more reasons why I don't want to go back to writing templates as part of some backend framework: JavaScript is eventually needed for any non-trivial app. JS without a build system/dependency

I think it's easy to blame our inaction or weak policy on our political structures. While the American system certainly isn't perfect, we must work within it to address climate change urgently. Concluding that change cannot happen

There are two types of conflicts: literally changing the same lines of code (which you're talking about) and conflicts of business logic between features/modules (which I'm talking about). What if your PR depends on a databas

I don't understand this, how could you be confident your changes won't break something if they are not based on the tip of a branch? What if other conflicting changes have been merged in the mean time?

Because that requires retraining the model every time you take new notes. And this way you also still have the raw notes as similarity matches from the vector db, rather than them "disappearing" into the LLM model.

Hard disagree, I use the hover-to-preview-article feature all the time. Sometimes I just want to peek at a page to see what it is instead of opening it.

I agree that chat interfaces are not great, but we shouldn't reduce LLMs to implementations in chat interfaces. For example, the "autocompletion" I get with copilot is a very useful tool that I use daily, and I think that sor

I think the common argument is "complex interactivity". If you have sufficiently complex custom client-side interactivity (e.g. sending, receiving, manipulating and displaying data in the DOM without constantly reloading the page)

That's really not the point of the article. It's addressing overuse of useEffect(), not implying that you never need it.

I think (hope?) it's the beginning of a long, slow decline for Amazon as a marketplace, unless they fix this. This distrustful sentiment is something I hear from a lot of younger people (<40 year olds). I didn't even notice it

That's what the default zoom level is for. There are plenty of people who just need slightly larger text so they can read, but don't want to zoom in every element of the page. Why are you making assumptions about what users want i

No, not really. The browser setting is for default _font_ size for a reason. People want legible text. Design elements like icons, pictures, margins are generally decorative and not functional. If a user wants to set a default _zoom_ level,

I know, that's why I said you get a quick confirmation - "Ok, setting a timer for 10 minutes." is spoken back to you via the speaker.

Exactly, zooming and base font size are two fundamentally different things. Forcing users to zoom to get a legible text size is not an acceptable solution.

When is the last time you used CSS? "How to center a div" has not been an issue with CSS for many, many years. Flexbox and now CSS Grid have overwhelming adoption and most layouts can be achieved with a few lines of CSS.
