I also wouldn’t want to work with a person that is just negative all the time but fair critique and moral checks should be encouraged, especially when holding so much power. However well paid at the outset, such “cults” more often than not

Maybe overly limited funding for science is the problem? On the whole it all seems to me as if capitalism and the general problem of the (projected by too many?) “Leistungsgesellschaft” might have invaded science to a much larger extent tha

Aside: has anyone read “100 Go Mistakes and How To Avoid Them” [1] and would care to share their takeaways? After getting back to it after quite some years I’m still conflicted about the language and its tooling. It’s a frustratingly (and s

I pondered the SteamDeck before and it's definitely cool (big Proton push!) but I personally prefer the OLED Switch or my Apple silicon Mac for lighter mobile use cases (indie games, text heavy RPGs). I don't think the SteamDeck r

Thanks for the thorough answer, especially insightful with regards to CPU, chipsets and on the peripheral fronts. To be honest I'm still aching for that realtime RT + DLSS fix without being dependent on GFN "PRO" all without

Interesting point about VR. I guess the sets and controllers are married even more so to the Windows APIs and will incur stark penalty on immersion for even slightest lag (due to API translation)? A bummer for sure. I also honestly was lean

Due to Proton I feel like coming back to PC gaming after almost 20 years, great stewardship by Valve there. The last "rig" I built was for Doom 3 after which I'd never bothered with keeping a NTFS partition again. Apple silic

A great article but some dynamics got even worse since 2008. The idea that customers do have clout for example. Apart from major scandals / faux-pas most big companies these days don’t even have to care through sheer market dominance.

I personally enjoy all kinds of ambitious / flawed arcade ports on consoles so to me Berzerk, Defender and Joust still are worth playing on the VCS at least from that perspective.

The soundtrack for Eternal was the only thing that felt special about this sequel IMO. Doom 2016 was and is amazing though, instant classic including the congenial soundtrack. I’m even less excited about any further sequel now. Too bad John

It would be great if they’d just offer (marked up or not) DRM free, high quality 4K video files to download / own. I’m really not interested in 99% of the content on any of these platforms.
