That's funny because I was just thinking how much I appreciated your comments. Edit: but of course I didn't see it before the edit ;)

"git annotate" does the same thing, but "git blame" can be more fun / dramatic if you're looking into the cause of a problem. Interestingly, "svn annotate" had 2 aliases: "svn blame" and &qu

Reasonable request. I thought that by starting with "isn't it true" I was implying that I didn't know. Also, the person who provided the source was someone else, so if you're asking for a source re my question, per

OK, but isn't it true that a lot of Defense spending is categorized differently and doesn't show up on the budget?

I agree that there's a risk of getting off into the weeds. That being said, C Preprocessor behavior is pretty simple once you know it, and modern compilers are pretty good these days about helping you see what happens when you have an

I haven't seen a major project written in C that _didn't_ use some magical macro-foo. PostgreSQL source code for example, has a foreach() macro that loops thru a linked list.

I'm pretty sure people leak a lot more data into the "cloud", through their SMS messages, emails, apps, etc., than they used to keep in their desk drawer. On average I presume that there is more for law enforcement to go on

This. Only reason I read these comments was to see if someone would say this. The word "crypto" is too important to be lost this way. Any ideas how we can get people to knock this off?

I sort of agree, but at the same time the way incentives and work function in our society I think it's quite possible that something can both "require a ton of hard work" and be pretty inevitable, barring some huge societal c

I think that's right, that other than bullet-proof-ness, the boundary conditions and interfaces between nontrivial subsystems matter a lot and need to be integration-tested. Glad you pointed that out.
