The independent Cyber Safety Review Board’s forthcoming report knocks the tech giant for shoddy cybersecurity practices, lax corporate culture and a deliberate lack of transparency

Thanks for clarifying. I didn't know that either. I wouldn't even call it a "podcast" at that point, but I guess the definition is changing.

You could be right, but (as the article says), trying to listen to a podcast on the vanilla YouTube app is extremely frustrating, since you can't play audio in the background. Is it still a podcast if you have to watch it like a video?

> Google cited a statistic from Edison Research that said about 23 percent of podcast listeners in the US say YouTube is their primary podcast platform I assume this means YouTube Music, not plain YouTube? The article (and Google itself)

I love Suzanne Vega. Her first, eponymous album is an all-time great, IMHO. It’s very fluky that Tom’s Diner and Luka were her two hits. She was both lucky and unlucky.

Thanks for the link. I couldn't even get past this part: > Apache Parquet is a columnar storage format available to any project in the Hadoop ecosystem Nope and nope.

So because phones are useful, lock-in should be prohibited? I don’t think that’s how the law reads. Should we also prevent lock-in for car parts, because there are infinite places to go in cars?

“Locking people in for cash” is a common business practice in tech and other industries. Try mounting a Nikon lens on a Canon camera, for example. You might not like it, but I’m not sure why Apple deserves special condemnation in this regar

The world is moving away from imperative programming altogether, towards functional programming. Pretty much anything that can be done with control flow can be done with data flow instead, leaving fewer opportunities for error. Data flow is

No doubt. I also probably have a number of cancer cells in my body. They’re still abnormal cells, though. So, it may be normal to have some delusional thoughts, but delusional thoughts are not normal thoughts.

The error rate for delusional thinking is way higher than the error rate for normal human thinking. That’s why we call it delusional.

Delusional thinking is _common_, not normal. Just like cancer is common, but not normal.

That’s true. Look at organized religion: it may provide a survival advantage, even when it’s based on false beliefs. However, murder can also be fruitful for some people, but I think we’d still call it dysfunctional.

But that's the true nature of division. Unless one can prove that the denominator is non-zero, then the computation is not well defined. Practically speaking, languages like Haskell and F# have a monadic syntax that makes this consider

I appreciate this article. It's clear, easy to understand, and uses theory to propose practical improvements to FP. Some minor nitpicks: > In total functional programming ⊥ does not exist. That doesn't seem right. In total FP,

I think long periods of time are experienced logarithmically, with a base of around 2. So the period from, say, 10 to 20 years is comparable to the period from 20 to 40 years, and then 40 to 80 years. The seasons really start to zoom by at

Gotta disagree with you there. The whole point of a good cover is to put your own spin on the song. If it's just a note-for-note redo of the original, why bother? The best covers end up "owning" the song, and the original is
