it's a main tool in traditional chinese medecine. I am not sure if there were any western scientific studies to understand cupping/suction as done by chinese, but it's been "field-tested" for thousands of years

apart from rolling shutter issue, the image quality you get with a canon 5d mkii is much better than you get with camera they use for TV shows

if you want an auto-focusing setup, get the panasonic gh1 with the specially designed lens 14-140mm. But people get the canon 5d or the 7d because of the film look. The sensor is bigger so you get shallower depth of field, and also you get

I've seen great videos taken without a follow-focus or a rig, for instance http://vimeo.com/5000009 you need to shorten the strap and hold the camera at arm's length (so you get 4 points of contact, instead of the usual 2).

the latest firmware from canon also gave the same movie-oriented features (24p, manual AGC, picture settings etc.)

as you said, it's not only the camera. With a TV of film camera, you need a production crew, whereas you can get away with just 2 other person with a 5dmkii setup. Apart from staff expenses, this also means you get jobs done faster, or you

Sometimes it's difficult to know if the person is "quality", especially character. You could live with a person and know their worst habits and dark secrets after only a couple of years. I find both of you to be lucky (well you pushed also

I understand what you mean but I think presenting it as 20% is misleading imho. One might conclude that it's doesn't matter if you choose a nice, good-looking, smart etc. person vs another poor choice. Because with your figures (40 and 80%)

"The quality of your wife is ... 20% who you choose" doesn't make sense to me. Or does that imply that if you sacrifice for noble goals and be a man of character, you'll automatically meet a good quality wife?

Hi Mitchell I love this :-) have myself a bunch of slices and would make sense to consolidate them and run them with Vagrant (also would be less expensive too) Have a question: does this run on a virtualized environment? For instance, if I

it could just be the user interface design. instead of markers, they could switch to gradients, so that you could view sex density, in the way you want it

pretty ironic comment, given that sex is amongst our first basic needs

good point. I think it has more to do with the company's core values than the company's expertise. Most data centers have expertise in data centers operations, but they don't know where to focus. Google is a master in optimization, so they

Google does massively distributed computing, whereas Facebook doesn't have the same priorities. But I agree, the analogy is not the best

it's because Google's data center are geared for one single purpose: crunching massive amounts of data. They can get away with just one hardware platform, fine-tweak it, then design the racks. Most other companies (99% of the web companies)

at the beginning, the author states publishers would upload the videos directly to the website with one direct button; however existing content publishers wanted the YouTube audience, hence the move to YouTube API.

what did you get for hardware protection? Do you have your own data center?

also the good thing about getting your own servers is having hardware options (like getting SSD drives instead of the regular ones, having a video card (if you do media transcoding), etc.)

I disagree with "buy better hardware" (unless you are thinking of just additional RAM or getting a SSD instead of a regualar hardware) imho you need to design with horizontal scaling in mind

also 1. caching is your friend 2. you probably need 2 load balancer (instead of 1) for high availability 3. probably need a SAN or shared storage somewhere when you have several web servers
