> Within EU we already pay ~€3 for packages from China Yes, the point is, pay +€1 for packages from EU to EU to finance all this PPWR circus.

This really hits home. As a person with IBS I basically cannot peacefully go outside in EU. I lived for many years in China and Thailand, and toilets are free, clean, and plentiful there, and you can easily ask any place to use their toilet

Exactly. I don't see how EU can enforce it against China, when most of the goods are imported from China. Or any other non-EU country, for that matter.

I think this directive was from Feb 2025? Is 1 year enough for everyone to register in 25 different packaging regulation bodies, appoint representatives, etc etc?.. I also fail to see how this will stop Chinese companies from shipping to Eu

I don't know if this EU regulation will work or not (most likely not), but I can share how it is done in China (where package volume is orders of magnitude higher). China identifies "choke points" most packages pass: large pl

I mostly strongly identify with this. Been coding for ~35 years, if you count toy programs on a Spectrum. My world is being completely destroyed. And it's probably normal. I also don't understand TikTok, new Avengers, or queueing

We have a 4-home-1-office policy ("office day" on Tuesdays), I think it captures the best of both worlds for software teams. I go to office to "work" as well but it's different work: building relationships, having c

Have you seen how they watch movies in China? Collectively, with hundreds of real-time comments flying over the screen.

I'm with you here, the same slack-jawed knuckle-dragging Luddite. I'm not happy about the state of the world, but it is what it is. I am working on it alone and don't have access or extra money to pay an actual engineer. If I

Germany will be the first country to accept LLM-based humanoid robot citizens. Grep RULES.md, if not in the rules, `return 0`.

My rather simplistic take: Everybody have access to the same LLMs. Eventually if everybody is a "Nx engineer" (see PS below), then nobody is. Just a new baseline. Once you are at this point, you can either invest further in LLMs,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but 2/3 phones and smart watches are not Apple, and 7/8 consumer PCs are not Apple. 100% servers and industrial PCs are not Apple. 100% network equipment is not Apple. Apple doesn't have its own

Perhaps you're right and we will naturally segment into people who embrace anthropomorphic LLMs, and people who prefer tables and checklists and charts. It's ok, we already split into many groups e.g. people who prefer to read pap

I'll just never feel the same about "insights, advice and support" coming from a LLM vs. a real person. I know that perhaps in a blind A/B testing via text channels I probably won't be able to tell the difference, a

It's more of a resignation I think? An overwhelming majority of people (on Earth, I don't mean the highly skewed US/EU citizens) are one accident away from total ruin. I don't stress about it but I also recognize how bro

You can run with --no-migrations ( https://pytest-django.readthedocs.io/en/latest/database.html... ) and default the test DB to be in memory (works at least for PG and SQLite) to make it quite a bit faster.

Browsing is absolutely intolerable these days, with almost every website having a block screen, "we're checking your browser...", stuff like that. Lately I just close these websites immediately.

Then it just becomes a new baseline (everyone have access to the same LLMs), and recruiting moves up the philosophical ladder where human can add more value. What will it be? I don't know, I'm not a recruiter.

I wish. No, I just do it with my wife. We move a lot and we're not very social, so it is what it is. We just spread it over weeks or sometimes months (like with wines, we drink maybe a bottle per 2 weeks).
