It's because this isn't a content restriction. Anything that was speakable on TikTok remains speakable on platforms that aren't owned by U.S. adversaries. The distinction between this and China's "great firewall&quo

I use it on a NAS for: - Confidence in my long-term storage of some data I care about, as zpool scrub protects against bit rot - Cheap snapshots that provide both easy checkpoints for work saved to my network share, and resilience against r

Same here. They sounded "off" for a while, but returned to normal after a day of drying outside of the case. (I'm guessing that perhaps some water was blocking the microphones used for noise cancellation.)

Ha, this brings back memories. Around 2003 I used either XDMCP or plain X11 forwarding over SSH to access my dorm room computer while at home visiting my parents, and later got a letter from school IT warning me about abusive network traffi

Additionally, when you use a bike long enough you'll often end up making a number of tiny adjustments to it over time. The monetary value of these adjustments may be minimal—add a saddle and rack and bags that fit just right, adjust t

That won't work if you need to access IPv6-only services (as the Czech government will make theirs). In other cases it may "work" but perform worse than IPv6. Why the desire for a NAT? It's technically possible on IPv6 t

Following this launch I've been test-driving both Firefox and Vivaldi. I'm surprised how few issues I've encountered browsing with Firefox, despite it not being part of the Chromium borg. I dare say it's actually a nicer

Another key differentiator for Chrome, when it came out, was its process isolation model. Firefox has that too now.

Simply calling attention to or criticizing people doesn't meet the standard for incitement to violence, and it only takes a moment's thought to understand why someone who isn't calling for violence cannot be held responsible

I've been paying a tiny amount to use Google Cloud because the handful of domains I control were registered with Google Domains, in turn because I trusted Google to run a good registrar. Maybe there was no special reason to use Google

Well on my work Mac I'm not signed into iCloud, and there's a permanent red notification dot, just as prominent as if I had an important system update waiting, begging me to create an account.

I use it because it does better than Chrome or Firefox for my laptop's battery life. It's an unwanted hassle to stay on top of these new privacy settings though, and I wouldn't recommend Edge to a non-technical family matter

You can certainly download a GPX route from services like Alltrails to the Garmin Fenix 7 for purely offline routing—that's one of the watch's strongest features. Additionally, you can do simple ad-hoc routing on the watch itself,
