I've been thinking about emigrating, I'm surprised so many of my peers still try.

Again I don't really want the kernel managing a database for me like that, the few applications that need that can do it themselves just fine. (IME mostly just RDBMSs and Qemu.)

It's crazy people spend so much time paying attention to Hollywood celebrity drama. Opens LKML archive hoping for another Linus rant.

Does your system have some critical out of tree driver? That should have been recompiled with the new kernel, that sounds like a failure of whoever maintains the driver/kernel/distro (which may be you if you're building it yo

It's plenty easy to make drivers now, it's just hard to distribute them without sharing the source. There is absolutely no good reason not to share driver source though so that's a terrible use case to optimize for.

The older I get the more I feel like anything other than the ExtantFS family is just silly. The filesystem should do files, if you want something more complex do it in userspace. We even have FUSE if you want to use the Filesystem API with

Nah. I used a phone for two years running Linux with FVWM and mostly VTE apps. If anything keyboard driven UIs are nicer on touch screens since the controls don't slide over each other all the time. Most people think they would be bad

In theory. The socialization premium is getting high enough that you are actually often better off doing everything on your own again.

OSX could run just fine on the iPad today. There's no technical limitation, there's nothing to develop (nothing non-trivial anyway.) OSX does not run on the iPad because it would give iPad users an escape from profitable "val

Are there really people who don't do this? Copying private keys around just feels gross like copying binaries around.

Probably best to ask them detailed questions about their particular resume. In theory you could cram all that into an LLM but the quality will certainly deteriorate. I haven't interviewed people at all in a year or so though.

Don't know why this is downvoted. It's pretty difficult to even get a hold of the binary artifacts, much less the source, to verify. For all you know they could very well be sending back embeddings or have it trigger recording.

I think they all have something they want to do with it and just don't see how to accomplish that with the trees there. I know some people just don't like how trees feel (my mom is like this for example, something about growing up

Too bad everyone was too busy calling eachother names 15 years ago to actually fix the problem so this is the only viable solution. Maybe we'll learn for next time?

You could skip a lot of stuff by training a transformer on some kind of neural embeddings. You probably get effective FTL communication and limited immortality that way.

Stuff like this makes me really think our sides just can't share a state. We need to separate so you can be a slave for whatever it is you think you're doing and we can ignore you in peace. None of this has been managed well for q
