It's actually a crime in the US not to manage a public company in the interest of the shareholders. (There was a large case which Ford lost establishing the way this is interpreted now which many people argue is why it gets interpreted

I think Rust's std really wants to be just the runtime. Most language stds are runtime + common utilities and then often there's an extra set of common environment libraries with varying levels of distinction.

Taxing "the rich" always seems to end up taxing the middle/working class instead. I think most of us would prefer the spending just get killed at this point, whatever that takes.

Are you going to demand it when you write your program? That seems like a regression from most CLIs with bespoke option parsers I've used.

Yeah I was a little surprised to discover the standard library doesn't even include regex. That's kind of extreme. Even most C environments have that.

It's useful if your terminal emulator isn't very good and the scrollback buffer doesn't work. This can happen for any number of reasons. Or maybe I don't feel like using the mouse, or I want to do something like grep it.

I shouldn't have to and will not explain why C's stdio.h and arbitrary 3rd party projects on github are not the same.

This shouldn't even need terminal coloring, in fact that sounds annoying because it's going to have to behave differently if you pipe it to less (or it's going to do something dumb like the rust compiler itself and just reope

Don't know about EV stuff but I don't think normal ID cards are going anywhere. All the home automation stuff I've gotten speaks UPNP, my quadcopter doesn't have an app at all AFAIK but I shopped for an open source one.

It really bothers me how much people use crates in Rust. "Minimalist" crates have tens of dependencies. It's like the node.js of systems languages. Touching it feels gross.

This approach would be fine if users were empowered to add AI integration they wanted on their own. They are not though. Absolute control over the platform means Apple has the responsibility to have more vision for the future than anyone el

Don't tell me what I want. Yes I have my bitcoin-qt wallet, Etrade, my ssh keys, and my password manager on a machine I also have root on. I don't run non-free code on it (and I'm very picky about the open source code I do ru

Lol. It's legitimately easier to just buy a UMPC with an LTE card and use VOIP than do that. That's how bad the situation is at this point. I say this as someone who gets paid to work on open source and used PostMarketOS on my pri

A big part of my short thesis with Apple is that they'll try to do this sort of thing and it will mean real AI integration like what their customers want will simply never be available, driving them to more open platforms. I think you&

If you sell me a computer and I don't have a shell on it that's false advertising at best. Doing this en mass with the goal of actually changing people's behavior is even worse IMO. We don't have a word for it because it

Kind of weird to hear people talking about this. One of the last classes I took in college (ca 2018 or so) one of my professors said this was going to happen. I remember thinking "oh yeah right, that's some ridiculous sci-fi crap,

People do the same with realestate via PP&E. I think it says more about the currency the valuation is written in than the underlying. (Not that I'm defending Microstrategy that's obviously insane.)

Eh. Apple's chips are good but not exactly game changing. At the end of the day if they're doing anything useful they still run the same software everyone else's do with roughly the same performance. It's a great analogy

Most of this stuff isn't that hard to learn and apply. If they put that much effort into setting up an LLM cheating tool they could have just built something with whatever tool you're talking about.
