If you are confident (really confident!) that you could deliver in 6 weeks, go for it. The publicity from launching at a large-ish conference should make up for the additional stress caused by a hard, external deadline.

Many of the factors affecting traffic jams are a result of human drivers. This animation demonstrates two causes of traffic jams - 'waves' and zip merging: http://trafficwaves.org/tanim.html I think it is rather easy to see how a central

In this case you get the best of both worlds - if you mock the third-party API you can do TDD on all of your code, but you still get all the thrill and excitement of debugging when the API doesn't behave entirely as advertised!

I like VMWare's (free) ESXi. It is lacking some of the higher end features, but I find it great for running dev machines. http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere-hypervisor/overview.h...

Why not fork the project, add some of these topics, and send a pull request? I'm not being snarky or sarcastic - I personally would love to see some of the more advanced topics you mention included in the list of patterns, in particular loa

There is a difference between registering your domain with GoDaddy, and using GoDaddy's DNS servers. The wikipedia.org domain is (currently) registered with GoDaddy. Wikipedia run their own DNS servers.

http://www.worldwidewebsize.com/ suggests Google is currently indexing around 46 billion web pages. Running a regex across that amount of data would be a lot more than 10x slower. You say you would be happy to wait days for a result, but

Yes, this will be possible - I will go in to more detail in a blog post, but essentially you will be able to create a group of people who can pool resources, and then pay for servers with funds from that pool. It might not be in the beta -
