It appears that he is referring to JSON within the limited context of web APIs. The scenarios dismissed as a "very specific edge case in a development environment" appear to crop up all the time when using JSON for something other than APIs

My nephew and I have had some success with "Hello World! Computer Programming for Kids and Other Beginners". Many parts of the book direct the student to try out the examples in the interpreter, which I think is a nice way of demonstrating

That's mostly irrelevant. A lot of people are not using Github just because it supports git - the network effect is one of the key drivers in choosing Github.

That's a good point. My comment to the parent just reflects my (rather limited) use case for git - off-site storage for git repos. If you use other Github-specific features like Issues, it does indeed become more difficult to switch.

Exactly. If it ever becomes necessary to move away from github, it can be done in seconds by adding a new remote and pushing. I have always seen this as a testament to github's quality - if the switching cost to your users is a couple of sh

I can't speak for any of the core Django team, but as a user of Django I am glad that they took their time with this one. IMO github 'won' the social coding and source hosting battle a while ago, but I am glad that the Django team don't imm

I have just discovered www.cloudability.com - they generate reports to give you insights in to your AWS bill, and you can configure budget notifications. I am trying the beta now and am very impressed so far.

You can set this up with CloudWatch - add your EC2 costs as a metric, then you can create alarms based on your desired threshold (although I'm not sure how frequently this data is updated).

Ah, I see. Yes, looks like Google offers multiple phone-based two-factor systems. I was referring to the oAuth one, which uses time-based tokens rather than sending the code via SMS.

The two-factor auth system does not use the phone as a phone, just as a hardware token. Google displays a token on the login screen, you enter this in your phone and type the code it gives you in to the login page (similar to RSA's SecurID,

The calibre of the backers leaves me certain that this is not a PR stunt. Does the founder of one of the world's best known companies need any additional PR? How about the director of one of the all-time top grossing movies? Seriously, the

This could replace SOLR for one of my sites - I'll need to do some benchmarks to compare them when deciding if it makes sense to move. If so, I can probably post CloudSearch:SOLR comparisons at least.
