I've seen this as well. It's getting increasingly normal, but I cannot imagine doing the same myself. There's a much bigger likelihood of me going back to a feature-phone, compared to me starting to use my phone for anything

Oh I think it would work, but I don't think we're willing to do so. No one is going to shutdown/ban Facebook, X or Reddit, regardless of how much good it would do.

Have you noticed how much stuff breaks when Github or NPM is down? People do not cache, they do not mirror, modern development for large parts are just people YOLO-ing it.

Part of this is something I've been thinking about lately. We're reluctant, if not down right unwilling, to un-invent things. By and large we've generally invented things that improve our lives, but with a few slip ups. Some

The Perl Foundation has a goal to get more smaller donations, rather than a few large ones and it seems like they've been doing okay lately. You're probably correct that this could better be summed up later in the year as one sing

They probably had two brands that made sense, Ray Ban or Oakley, but just by listing those two, it's fairly clear that the products would be perceived vastly different, had they gone with Oakley. The rest of the brands are either luxur

I wasn't talking about a boycott, I was talking brand damage. It's entirely possible to put less value in a brand, without boycotting it. Previously I had Ray Ban in the "Makes high-end expensive sunglasses" category, bu

Which makes you wonder about Ray-Ban. Are they aware that their involvement with Meta risks hurting their brand? Those of us who are critical of Meta might be niche enough that it doesn't matter, but they must have factored that in.

A few years ago people could not stop talking about how great Slack was. Much better than HipChat, Google Chat, Teams, IRC. I've used all of them, Slack was never better. As much as I dislike Google Chat (or whatever they call it), Sla

That's not really true anymore. I've used a connection with both IPv4 and 6 for the past two years. There's a number of times where my stuff magically works, whiles others have issues, because my traffic is mostly over IPv6.

NPM does seem vastly over represented in these type of compromises, but I don't necessarily think that e.g. pypi is much better in terms of security. So you could very well be correct that NPM is just a nicer, perhaps bigger, target. I
