Your points might be valid a polygamist society, but otherwise, it will always be pretty simple for males to get reproductive access.

I believe my free-market opinions are in the best interest of the people. Of course, it’s in some people’s interests (those who produce significant real value) more than others (those who produce little value) but I still think it’s in the

Fine. I can’t think of any other modern language that is worse than Java. And why would you think I’m inexperienced based on that view alone?

I like to play poker (which isn’t gambling) so I walked in to a local casino (I live in Tanzania, so it’s pretty small and run by some Russian gangster) and tried to find a table. They only had house games (including house poker, but it’s r

What about Scala? It's probably my favorite language: incredibly expressive, FP+OO, higher kinded-types, great tooling, flexible performance (you can adjust between elegance and java/C++-like performance very easily), and runs on

The people I've met who like Java are the kind of people who don't know any other programming language. In fact, I'm not sure I can think of a worse language than Java. Moreover, when people say the like Java, what they reall

Well would you prefer to have a crappy job or no job at all? Don’t labor under the assumption that government mandates don’t affect the decisions of businesses.

How is banning shoes taking a practice of hygiene to a “new level”? You can’t take off your feet when you get home, can you?

Maybe we should make your car go carbon neutral? The percent of CO2 emissions from private jets is <1% in the US. Democracy shouldn’t be two wolves and a sheep deciding whats for dinner.

If there was only economy, the prices would be much much higher. First/business class and coach need each other: each is subsidizing the other through price discrimination.

But electricity costs are not fixed, in the US at least, they float with the market. So electricity during the day is more expensive than electricity at night. This is how a good market should work. Why should the internet be any different?

How is it that we live in a time in which more rich people is somehow a bad thing? People are always talking about wealth inequality, but why, exactly is it bad? Would it be better if everyone was dirt poor? What kind of probability density

I've never used GNU Parallel. But could someone explain to me the value add vs GNU xargs -P/--max-procs? From the examples at the top, it seems like those could be achieved with xargs.

I always really liked Martin Shkreli. He kind of reminds me of myself (maybe that says more about me than Martin Shkreli). Maybe he ran a fraud, but he did good by his investors, they got huge return off of his "scam." Of people

Do you mean pandas? numpy isn’t very similar to APL like functionality at all. On the otherhand, pandas is very similar though much much less elegant.

Well every pandas operation returns a DataFrame so that’s pretty composable. No doubt APL-likes are much nicer than pandas but in terms of operations, I belive they support the same operations.

I would say that pandas and R can pretty much express everything that APL/J/Q can. They are a lot slower though (than Q atleast, I haven’t used J or APL)

Problem with music sounding bad doesn’t really have much to do with the distributed format: V0, V1, or 320 mp3s should sound pretty much the same compared to 16-bit flac. You can only the difference between mp3 and flac at shitty bitrates n

I think Scala does a good job of unifying OO and FP. And because of everything being first class, you get to eliminate all the ridiculeous design patterns and end up with a very nice FP system based upon objects and traits or typeclasses

How is that “evil”? Isn’t that the crystallization of the teleological purpose of a company? The ideal company works to maximize shareholder value. And not just short-term value, but the amortized value of the company in perpuitity. This in
