Racket has a really nice GUI framework. Super simple and pretty powerful.

I remember seeing some TuxCart arcade machines in the Middle East last time I visited. Really wasn’t expecting an open source game to be in an arcade! But after thinking about it, it makes tons of sense: no royalties just the cost of the ca

Those are M16A1’s. M16A4’s are the current model, though if I remember correctly they are being phased out in favor of the M4.

I am a strong believer in the free market and neo-liberalism . But let’s be clear: this isn’t capitalism, this is rent-seeking and corruption.

So parens are just a quoted list? Seems a little unnecessary but I wasn’t alive so I guess I don’t know.

It seems like MDL uses both greater/less than and parens. Is this analogous to Scheme using both brackets and parens? That is, just for readability?

Honest question: Why are you using arrow keys for coding?

C/C++ doesn't really have much static typing to speak of. I don't think you are realizing the power of real statically type languages, such as Haskell, OCaml, or Scala.

From personal experience, the Linux port of OpenGenera isn’t very stable.

Last time I checked you could get a 3600 for around 3.5k. While not as cool, you can get DEC Alphas for a lot cheaper and I'm told they run OpenGenera pretty well. You might be able to actually use an Alpha for "real" work, a

Whatabout-ism is very a good line of thought. Moreover, a lot of this money (maybe even most) is going to the military industrial complex.

Your characterization of VCs is highly inaccurate. VCs generally invest in businesses with a very low chance of success but with a high potential payout.

As a person who has done every exercise in SICP, that argument is total bullshit. Let's go through the list of things that the author says Javascript doesn't have: 2. Lexical block scope JS has lexical function scope, so it woul

For some reason, emacs to pdf or latex errors out for some .sty file being missing. I could probably fix it, but pandoc works out of the box so I guess I’ll be sticking with it.

I use pandoc + org-mode and it’s perfect. I love being able to convert my notes to LaTeX while correctly handling the inline images and math.

Rent control is a scourge on our cities and people. It hurts everything around it: the people (both rich and poor), the city, the developers, sometimes even the people who are living in the rent controlled apartment. I don't think you

JS is a lot closer to Scheme and Lisps than an imperative language. In fact, it used to have a lispy syntax before Brenden Eich was forced to change it to make it more approachable.

No one is forcing you to have one. Many people don’t use them. But more people do. And if you believe that the market is somewhat efficient, people are paying a fee (it’s a lot lower than 6%) because they feel it’s generally worth it.

This article seems to be pretty racist to me. I’m white and live in Africa and am a citizen of Tanzania. But by his standards I guess I’m not African and never will be? Sounds like a double standard.
