On macOS x86_64, the size of PAGEZERO cannot be set to 0, but it can be set to 0x1000 (4 KiB) instead of the default 4 GiB. Wine does this to support running Windows EXEs which need to load at a fixed address. On ARM64, PAGEZERO's size

Your headphones were probably sending an AVRCP 'play' command every time they connect. This was a common problem with older car radios too.

WBD has had a crushing amount of debt since it was formed a few years ago, and they’re in “sell everything that’s not nailed down” mode.

Podman is in an experimental state for FreeBSD 14, and can even run Linux containers using the Linux binary emulation. https://podman.io/docs/installation#installing-on-freebsd-14... (I'm personally using it now t

My overriding feeling after reading this is: displaying text is a key job of a web browser. A browser that showed no text would be useless. And yet, after learning that Chromium's text looked wrong on Windows (by far the most important

macOS does support EVFILT_TIMER, unfortunately the man pages that Apple hosts are very out-of-date. A more recent page ( https://www.manpagez.com/man/2/kqueue/osx-10.13.1.php ) shows support, and it's been

I’m pretty sure there’s no way to pass USB devices through to a guest VM when using Virtualization.framework (which is required for running macOS VMs)

You can do this without virtualization/emulation, pass ‘-arch x86_64’ or ‘-arch arm64’ to clang. Or both, for a universal binary. And on Apple Silicon, you can test them both thanks to Rosetta.

I think there’s a story in the Bill Gates biography “Hard Drive” about when he flies to MITS in New Mexico to show off BASIC (I think), then realizes he forgot to write a bootloader, so does it on the plane on a yellow legal pad. Toggles it

Correct. Developer ID certs cannot be revoked self-service, you have to email Apple.

Judging from the script linked here ( https://github.com/docker/for-mac/issues/7527 ), Docker’s Developer ID cert was revoked by Apple. Are…they going to explain why/how that happened?

I don't think there are diversion points, you either keep going to destination or turn around. The A380 is rated for ETOPS-330, that's 5hr30min from a diversion airport.

It’s documented in their older blog posts, I believe they use the ‘asr’ utility to copy the OS install. The many partitions that make up a macOS install means that cp or rsync isn’t enough. dd would do it, but at great cost in flexibility (

Before Sequoia, a Linux VM using Rosetta would have TSO enabled all the time. With Sequoia, TSO is not enabled for Linux VMs, and that kernel patch (posted in the last few weeks) is required for Rosetta to be able to enable TSO for itself.

Rosetta now supports AVX and AVX2 on Sequoia, but I believe all the others are missing (F16C, BMI, OSXSAVE definitely are not there)

Add ‘-nobattleye’ to the Steam command-line launch options and you can play single-player without any installs. (Rockstar really should’ve made this a separate launch option like other games do)
