Why... why would I lie? What could I possibly have to gain from lying about this? I only have HN karma to lose, which I don't have much to begin with. You can, before simply defending AMD, research and see for yourself that required BI

I recently tried to go the AMD/Ryzen route. I like an underdog comeback story as much as the next guy. But be warned: Motherboards that "support" Ryzen do not in fact support Ryzen out of the box. You have to update the BIOS

I thought it was funny, kudos to him. I thought it might even motivate someone else to start their own private list. Public things are rarely easy to regulate for quality.

I think the potential here is immense. Boxfish, twitter, YouTube, Siri, and now with Ray Kurzweil @ Google... thinkers are converging on doing to every other form of content what Google did for structured documents. The NLP trend is going t

I think almost every active user has something they want from GitHub, so I thought I'd get this off my chest in the comments: Personally, I use Issues a lot, and if it would be great to be able to upload any file related to that issue. I un

Short term: wants a meeting, and this should probably do the trick. Long term: doesn't want get killed, prefers to partner with Twitter and sustain a lesser profit margin for a longer period of time. I say a slow clap is in order here, no m

You're right, I actually have it installed too, I should've just done that and moved on. This particular blog with the patterned/hypnotic background really hurt my eyes in the morning, and I guess I was cranky enough to take it as an insult

Didn't read your rant since it was impossible for my human eyes. I may bill (!) you for the temporary loss of productivity. Your BG and color scheme are horrible, I would rather blend and drink my left foot than read your blog again.

The arguments above are more about HN as a community (and how it self-regulates/self-analyzes, its values) than your achievement. The fact that you've completed this game is still amazing to us all, that remains unchanged whether you were 1

Only if there was a way to set Google Maps as the default map/address-finding app. Anyone know how to accomplish this? Right now, touching any addresses you have saved under a contact will open up Apple's Maps app.

I agree, but I don't think it will be necessary to pay radically more. I was actually happy to see they did $57m losses on $250m revenues; even happier when I saw that a large sum of the loss was the new staff. Worry not, because, in my opi

... Wikileaks, anyone? I think the model Mr. Schmidt is advocating has been tried, and destroyed in front of our eyes by multiple collaborating governments (sweden, america, england) and corporations (paypal, visa, et al.), in the last 24 m

For an article that refers to data-based decisions, what was the purpose of white on black retina-burning colors for this blog? Is 'visitor should exit halfway through the article' a goal? :)

I was going to agree with VonLipwig until I read this. This may hold some truth to it - even if the world doesn't know HN (thankfully, I keep it on the DL myself) and even if all of HN's readers/contributors are fully aware of SOPA, showing

I'd believe it if every online community hadn't already fantasized, written, prepared wikis, appointed Financial Ministers and plotted to buy the Principality of Sealand at one point or another for this same goal. Thanks for the chuckle tho

I'm not sure if you're sarcastic or not - anyway, perhaps the reading speed could be changed after signing up. First reading speed value is calculated with average reading speed, 150wpm seems safe (wikipedia based ballparking here).

I really like the idea, how about a quick way to 'calculate ~ reading speed' feature? display a random paragraph, click start and start reading, timer stops in 15 seconds and you click on the word you last read, extrapolate from there.
