I am no longer a Rails user, but Rails was the reason I switched to a Mac and abandoned .NET and Windows completely. Those demos using TextMate were sweet.

I went into solutions architecture (known elsewhere as sales engineering) at AWS. It pays way better and I don't have to compete with people 25 years younger than me who will work for $10/hr on the other side of the world.

This is the most practical answer I've read thus far. However, I actually code via SSH into AWS EC2, so my local CPU is irrelevant for compiles.

I tried getting into Clojure (I have an undergrad Lisp background). I just couldn't become productive, and the tooling seems fragmented. Been moving many of my workloads from Go to Rust.
