Look at the recent Boston mayoral election. Kraft used bike lanes as a wedge issue to try to unseat our incumbent mayor. It worked well enough that she tore out flexposts from a bunch of lanes.

Yep, i switched to a under seat steering recumbent to avoid any pressure on my (startup workload damaged) wrists. I almost immediately hurt my knees because it was so fun to go really fast by pushing against the seat back.

Usually this happens when there isn't dedicated bike infrastructure, both physical and legal and cultural. Of course they have to pick and choose.

FWIW anthropologists have debunked the overly simple and somewhat patronizing idea of cargo cults that Feynman presented. Reality was much more complicated and less amenable to his style storytelling.

Terms of service prohibit subscriptions for employees of companies bigger than X people. I suppose they could all sign up as individuals and try to get away with it but presumably that would look pretty obvious with a tiny bit of analytics

>...use a service in which costs are not predictable, and keeping those costs under control requires employee training. Isn't this a (mildly exaggerated) description of AWS, which is a very successful service?

Lawyers too cheap to pay an intern 1 hour of minimum wage to Google or lexis-nexis each cited case to make sure it actually exists. Then maybe another 1 hour of paralegal time to skim the summaries of the ones that passed the intern check

If an artist is just someone you listen to, you're not the demographic for a feature like this. You can't have several dozens of favorite bands. The idea is to get tickets to the hardcore fans, not the casual listeners.

But in the process of installing those language servers (automatically, without notifying you) it will install node, and download npm packages, which can do crazy stuff, as we've seen recently with the shai halud redux

On vscode you can control autoupdates. (Still trying to find a way to control zed's overeager updating)

I want to go all in on zed now that it's 1.0 but it's security model is all or nothing AFAIK - either I allow it to download and install unknown to me NPM packages whenever it wants with no notice to me, or I turn off all LSP fun

Ads and other third party stuff are the major performance problem. Spending 1 millisecond of cpu time to block megabytes of ads and javascript (that would take much longer than 1 millisecond to run) is well worth it IMO.

I think the wikipedia page downplays how often it's used to try to hurt or annoy cyclists, pedestrians, or anyone who looks liberal/foreign. It's not just anti environmentalists who do it, it's a general MAGA thing.

It's weird to have the same rules when there are several orders of magnitude difference in manueverability, maximum damage possible, and visibility between the two modes. Imagine if pedestrians had to follow all the same rules as cars.

Tesla specifically programmed their self driving mode to roll through stop signs without stopping. I don't think anyone has believed the claims of the self driving marketers for a long time now.
