While I'm not sure exactly how we're supposed to filter out certain news sources, I would not for a moment say MotherJones has a sterling track record of "serious news reporting." In this case, in particular, their analy

Newb question. If the big boys are crawling, scraping, stealing the whole of the entire internet to train their models — how are these OS alternatives aiming to outperform them? Is it as simple as... ALSO crawl, scrape, steal the whole of t

I don't know that this sets a floor, really. There's already a valuation, set by its own preferred investors. I'd think $97b is almost definitely below that. And do the nonprofit board members have the same fiduciary as a typ

Apple always sweats the details and I so respect it! Upon arriving at the kid's birthday party Android users get green balloons.

The facts seem to be that a helicopter diverted from its published course (300 feet rather than 100 feet) and made a reckless, fatal mistake. TCAS was too late or not usable at that low altitude. The controller - who had previously warned o

Why would I want a crippled version of ChatGPT that is only updated once per year alongside new iPhones? Apple Intelligence feels useless and the iPhone has never felt so stagnant.

Digits will be $3k and have 128GB of unified memory, so don't we already know that it wouldn't compare well this this rig? 128 won't be enough to fit the model in memory. As for Apple, we'll see.

Serious question coming from ignorance — what is the most cost effective way to run this locally, Mac or PC? Please, no fanboyism from either side. My understanding is that Apple's unified memory architecture is a leg up for that platf

Fascinating to read the thinking process of a flush vs a straight in poker. It's circular nonsense that is not at all grounded in reason — it's grounded in the factual memory of the rules of Poker, repeated over and over as it con

This isn't serious, right? I'm rooting for Anthropic and really enjoy 3.5 Sonnet, but as a consumer product OpenAI has opened up quite a gap. And that's without o3-mini, which might debut next week. That said it was interesti

I love these claims — 30x smaller than Next! Y% faster than Next! (And then a roadmap making it clear it's not even close to feature-complete.) Something makes me think as the features mount, that bundle will get a little bigger, maybe

That’s actually my point. I don’t think strict textualism really has anything to do with any case. As soon as you say it’s the rule of law that drives every case, you find yourself somehow interpreting an awful lot.

Well gosh, that sentence makes it seems like Congress could do anything! However, this case is about something else. The opinion states that there is a first amendment interest, but that interest is secondary to a compelling national securi

Regardless of one’s view on the outcome, this case is a reminder that textualism as a legal philosophy stands on shaky ground. This case is decided not on some strict analysis of the words written by a legislator, but on the court’s subject

Agree about sleep. He managed a newsroom and “put the paper to bed” so he worked from 7pm to 4am. I’m sure it didn’t help. For myself, I’m physically built very differently (leaner) and I don’t care much for sweet tea, so I’m lucky I guess.
