I agree, but there has to be a balance between doing it for love and getting a living wage. One of my colleagues, an Associate Professor, works in Halfords (shop/garage chain in the UK) on the weekends. That isn't right. And ma

The pay gap is real, and a huge reason why perfectly good software folk (and scientists, data specialists, etc.) move out of academia and into industry. I have an industry job with good pay with a side of academic work stemming from my PhD.

Hmm. It's a lovely design, a bit preachy throughout, promoting the Startup Agenda, but plays fairly well. I hit a 'dead-end' very quickly on the first run through as I chose to continue to self-fund rather than seek investm

That's good to know (no sarcasm intended) - I was intending on holding onto my modest stash of diesel for a few months at most, but probably worth finding out a bit about how quickly it goes off!

All of this is the opposite of what the government will want you to do, since (arguably) the best way out of a recession is to spend one's way out, but, tragedy of the commons aside: - Get rid of debt, right now. Interest rates are sk

I'm not an artist and I don't understand art, beyond liking something tangible with an aesthetic that appeals to me. So I'll buy prints, or originals, that I like, and that I don't mind looking at every day, and hang the

Any database primer e.g. intro-level textbook would do, for the basics of relational integrity. But try finding a developer these days who has read a book or shows any interest whatsoever in writing SQL. Most of them just want to work wit
