It's difficult to make blanket pronouncements like this because there are so many different types of writing. News is different from fiction is different from technical manuals etc. I'm reasonably with King, and I must say the sug

You're welcome. It's a great reminder that it's easy to criticise "the machine" from the sidelines, but when you're part of it there are protocols and processes and systems etc that mean there really is no lati

I got an unfortunate Google 'accordion' ad at the bottom of that article, offering me among other things "Research your ancestry", "German WW2 original items" and, er, "Walk-in showers"

I think Nintendo was a lot more brutal than Apple is; there is a story, of which I forget the details, about how they bought up all of the cart manufacturing capacity in the run up to one Christmas, leaving the third party publishers sittin

For anyone who is wondering, the article referenced in the post above is well worth a read.

Heavens no! I'd much rather have a good summary than dive into documents written for domain specialists by other domain specialists. For legal documents, research studies, academic papers and the like the cognitive load associated with

It's great, the functionality is good and the price is fair. I could only see USD hardcoded as the currency, though, and there is the old euro VAT problem -- businesses in Europe need to be able to charge customers VAT depending on whe

As an aside, does anyone make a cron panel for humans? I'd find that really useful as I'm usually so busy being distracted by the next big thing that I forget to take care of repetitive tasks. I know I can achieve something like t

I hear people say stuff like this a lot. I've been using WordPress for years and find it really, really good -- not hard to get into, infinitely customisable, well supported, always improving, well-written plugins for every function th

I admire the sentiment, but I can't help being reminded of Wayne Rooney's "once a Blue, always a Blue" shirt. I'm sure he also meant it wholeheartedly at the time. Sadly there are 19bn reasons for this situation to

Does anyone know how to submit a newspaper to this archive? I have all 51 editions of a now closed newspaper in PDF format and it would be lovely to find them a home here...

As somebody who has been closely watching NFC for years, I find this side of the Bitcoin business interesting. People moan that NFC has been "just around the corner" for the best part of a decade, and some even think that it has m

by mpclark 13y ago
The way it has turned out is sort of the other way around. Nearly the entire press corps refers to BLE beacons as "iBeacons", so there is some value to hardware manufacturers in being able to market their product under that name.
