Not defending the MBP, but at least they have SSDs that can push 3.1GB/s [1] which is much better than most devices, esp. spinning rust. What Apple has done on the iPhones with their SSD's bus (moving off eMMC to a much faster bus

That is a pretty far off base conclusion, the goal is to make roads feel unsafe for drivers so they go slower, and reduce or eliminate commute distance, that is how roads are made safer. For example, a common strategy is to narrow a road fr

In a lot of older areas the roads were built just big enough for farm to market purposes[1] either officially (as in Texas) or unofficially. This resulted in narrow, twisty & curvy roads that encourage people to drive slower and safer.

The N900 is an interesting piece of hardware, perhaps a phone based on an Allwinner chipset with a fully separate baseband processor would be the way to go for an N900 replacement? I guess the major impediments I see are getting an LTE base

Uhh, I really want to drive to U-Village (aka traffic nightmare) to go to a bookstore run by Amazon, the group that can't figure out how to get above a 50% DOA rate on the hardware I've bought from them over the last 6 months? Thi

Yeah, it takes a bit of scrolling, kinda like the other EMR/HIS software that was on HN last week[1]. At the very least it isn't locked to CentOS 6.7 specifically, but GNU Health & Bahmni will likely never displace Epic or the

They want this data, and they know Google will let them get away with it. Just like how they segment SOCs based on what version of Android they support for each SOC, so if you want Android 6 or kernel 3.10, your paying for a higher end chip

Pretty much this, security isn't improving, its just those infected zip & doc files usually aren't targeted at Android or iOS.

Really sick sense of humor you've got there bud. Sure, people should pay & support the tools they use, but there are a lot of clueless, inept people out there who have been trained by Google, Facebook, etc that everything is free.

If anyone banned bothers to file a small claims case against Google, they could likely win. I've successfully won cases with significantly more grey area against well informed people in small claims, and Google would be compelled to se

If your door mirror is getting hit, you are driving way too close to the markers and they are doing their job. Hug the shoulder less, unless you like no mirrors & damage to the side of your car.

Good luck with that, I don't see Democrats surging in 2018, or retaking much ground locally in the interim. At the local level, the Democratic party is dead. The party needs to have a few dozen people volunteering in each district, so

The H3 is using an older 40nm process and is small in footprint, with no custom IP. Nothing really too exciting going on there, an 8 year old process is going to be cheap to use compared to a modern 14nm process.

When poking around for Allwinner H3 docs, I was getting quoted $1.50ea when ordering 100 or more of the H3 SOC, so quad cores can be had for that. It is kinda disconcerting to see how far SOCs have fallen in price.
