It would be interesting to find out who performed this crack, and who was the paymaster.

It's not at all clear to me that when Torvalds started Linux he was necessarily trying to advance world peace. His motivations seem to have been much more practical and somewhat self motivated (scratching a personal itch). If they're hand

Even if you are a climate change skeptic, apply typical journalistic investigation here. Perhaps the apparent damning statements are taken out of context. Science is not about certainty, and there is always debate about what the data real

This is nice, but it's a very conservative estimate of the near future. Many of these things already exist to some extent, or seem likely to happen within five years or so.

The photo uploader on facebook has always been lame, taking ages to load and often crashing. It's a classic case of over-engineering. I've always ended up using the simplified uploader, which is much more straightforward.

I thought this article was a rather silly cliche. Nerd cave? Often so-called "nerds" are just smart people working on projects which are too advanced or too abstract for most people to grok. And no, it's not always about computers either.

As soon as I see a paywall, either on a news site or an academic site, I just go elsewhere. Murdoch might enjoy a short term boost in profit if he forces readers to a paywall, but longer term he's just making his content irrelevant to most

"you won't notice any performance degradation at all" O RLY?? I beg to differ. I've seen the PCs of friends and relations reduced to a pitiful level of performance by well known so-called "security" software.

Good article, but also guard against excessive egotism. People who think they're big shots because they started an open source project, have a blog have some followers on Twitter are not always that great.

I havn't had any problems at all with the Karmic version. The past two or three Ubuntu releases have installed similarly without fuss (and I've installed on multiple PCs and laptops of varying ages). I don't care about Samba, and I don't
