I think it's fine. 4xx is a way of saying the client did something wrong that it can potentially fix (i.e. slow down requests). 5xx is more opaque meaning there is nothing the client can do to fix the problem.

I didn't really give much thought to the name other than "it's a paper/document with math in it." I honestly had no intentions (or even hopes) of trying to deceptive anyone into thinking I was a mathematician. I can see your point though an
