Yocto manages it thanks to the tireless effort of a community of people maintaining patches and unholy hacks for a ton of software to make it cross compilable. And they have nowhere near the amount of recipes that Fedora has.

Fixing cross compilation is a huge undertaking. So much software needs to be patched to be properly cross-compilable.

Do you typically care about portability to the degree that you want the same machine code to execute on both a Linux box and a microcontroller? Why?

Why would terraform leave transitive steps around? To my knowledge, Docker doesn't record a log the IO syscalls performed by a RUN directive, the layer just reflects the actual changes it makes. It uses overlayfs, doesn't it? If y

Completely depends on what you're doing. If you're doing a lot of sustained compute, or doing graphics, then yeah you're gonna want some cooling. But it's a useful little machine for all kinds of tasks which don't c

Then you're committing to maintaining a package for that software. Like all LLM boosters, you've ignored the fact that the largest time sink in many kinds of software is not initial development, but perpetual maintenance.

Right now I'm on a 2021 MacBook Pro, I'm debating whether to upgrade to the new M5 Pro laptops or to wait until next year; so that's 5-6 years. My desktop gets upgraded over time, so it's not really on a "cycle"

E cores didn't just ruin P cores, it ruined AVX-512 altogether. We were getting so close to near-universal AVX-512 support; enough to bother actually writing AVX-512 versions of things. Then, Intel killed it.

For an application like a build server, the only metric that really matters is total integer compute per dollar and per watt. When I compile e.g a Yocto project, I don't care whether a single core compiles a single C file in a millisec
