> Would you be like, "Uh, no, by communicating with me you have completely killed my interest"? It's not about completely killing my interest, but my mood would be slightly lessened. Also, there are some things where conse

> Asking permission before touching people, and not arguing when they say no goes a long way. Honestly, that's just not realistic. Subtle touching is a key part of rapport and bonding (even in a platonic setting between men). It wou

This is a really great post, both in the courage it took to write and the logical analysis it provides. I have to provide a bit of mea culpa here. When this issue first surfaced, I thought it was much more towards the line of flirting which

Being a billionaire definitely helps, but it's not really a massive advantage to be a multimillionaire. I have a few wealthy friends (single digit millionaires) who still struggle with dating.

My point is that saying they're dangerous (and we shouldn't do them) is not really helpful, since humans being humans we'll likely still do it. Instead, I'd like to think of ways to reduce the harm and make the dynamics

How do you get physical approval without flirting? I have eye contact and smiling with lots of people. It's just being friendly.

I agree it's dangerous, but it also happens literally all the time. Do you think nobody hooks up at SXSW?

Oh, I agree it's super creepy and would call out any colleague who I saw doing it. I just think it's creepy regardless of her age.

My personal strategy is to avoid flirting with or hitting on anyone from the same industry entirely, but I think it's pretty restrictive. People want to have common interests with their partners, and both working in tech is a common in

Does that mean that powerful men should never hit on women? A rich and powerful VC is almost always going to have more power than any woman he meets. Even if they're not actively raising money or trying to get a job, he's still a

Yes, being single forever is indeed an option. Men should learn to deal with rejection, but let's not pretend that they don't have the burden of initiating. I've literally never been asked out by a woman in my life.

Unfortunately, it's not quite that easy. Sometimes it's not clear that you're asking them on a date. Ex. I've asked a professional associate out for drinks. I thought it was a date, she didn't, and she was offended

Why is her age relevant? It's not an appropriate question for a colleague anyway, but I'm curious why that would make it worse.

Kayak does have alert notifications. The thing is that if you're looking for a very specific destination, you'll almost never get the best deals. Flight deals work best for people who are very flexible about destination and timi

I disagree (and have been severely depressed in the past). In many cases, depression is in fact your brain telling you that something is wrong in your life and you need to change it. [0] [0] https://www.psychologytoday.com/

That's true, but even with size-adjusted titles you can get faster promotions in a startup. It's pretty common to go from being an individual contributor to running a small team to running a larger team, all within a year or two a

It's not "unpaid" overtime if I'm a highly-compensated salaried employee. I'm a professional and expect to be treated as such—sometimes I'll barely come into the office at all, sometimes I'll be in a lot.
