Maybe in the US, but if you live in less protectionist markets you'll find Chinese vehicles undercutting Tesla on drive away price. For example my parents just bought an electric hatchback from GWM for ~27k USD, or ~21k USD after gover

Yeah I don't understand this, they're a massive company now with over 100k employees. Surely they can focus on more than 2-3 projects at a time.

There is certainly a trade off there, does the cheaper electricity compensate for the fact that you need to add say 20% extra capacity and the accompanying costs to your desalination plants as they will now be idle during low renewable prod

Somewhat tenuous, but Tolkien was taught Old English at Oxford by a New Zealander, Kenneth Sisam[1]. [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_Sisam

Apple didn't need to make as many deals as they're the only OEM. There's no real way to have a separate app store on Apple phones. Smartphone makers need app store revenue to make the handsets competitively priced. It would r

For years automakers have been pushing people towards bigger and bigger vehicles as they have higher margins, but saying that it's due to consumer preference. The Chinese automakers are showing that there certainly is demand in those s

I think the data is a bit skewed as Lexus/Toyota are the most reliable, and make many hybrid models. The question should be, for a particular make, are hybrids more reliable than ICEs?

A station wagon (essentially the same vehicle, but not as tall), or a minivan could do the same, surely? The only thing an SUV is better at than those vehicles is some serious offroading

How often do those charges get used? For example: https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/driver-killed-south-la-si... A driver, allegedly watching youtube, runs over and kills 2 children of 12 and 14 at a crosswalk. But th

For sprints in particular, the spikes make a decent difference on the track, more so for elite athletes as they need the extra traction more

A 14 second difference is less than 2% of the total time though, so it doesn't entirely disagree with them. Between dirt in casual running shoes to a track and top tech shoes, there would I guess be about a 15-20% difference, and most

If they have the fuel available, may as well be very conservative. Either burn the fuel on descent or have it sit in the tank forever on the lunar surface.

I was pleasantly surprised about 6 months ago when I went to run a game I wrote in Java when I was at university. Nothing huge, but still about 10k lines of code. I originally wrote it in Java 6, and it compiled and ran with no issues on Ja

Thanks that makes more sense, I had assumed it was for all types as Point used in the example has the same name as a class in the standard library

There's potential confusion whether the int x from the example comes from point.x (field), point.x() (method) or point.getX() (common getter pattern), just one more gotcha

It's a bit of an unkind example as most would write the latter as if (obj instanceof Point p) { System.out.println(p.x()+p.y()); } But I can maybe see the value if you need to use x/y more than once. However i

Because weight affects range, you could keep the same amount of energy and increase range at the same time as the battery would only weigh 1/3 as much and be maybe 400kg lighter

Fortunately the community doesn't have the perverse incentive of a hardware manufacturer. If updates stop flowing it encourages people to buy new devices.
