Which terrorists are you worried about? If al Qaeda blows up a pressurised train tunnel, then yes they can kill lots of people, heap a big cash cost on the tunnel operator... but they don't get any impressive pictures to put on TV. If the I

This article is a bit confusing. Banging on about HFCS and Nixon's "free market" reforms doesn't make sense in a UK context where we have neither of these things. Maybe the TV programme it's trailing will make more sense.

Then Apple would sell fewer macs. They would be opening themselves to a world of pain with hardware drivers that they are immune to as long as osx is only available for hardware they choose to sell. (There is a lot of PC hardware to suppo

The footnote says these figures are from a sample of online consumers, so people without internet who watch TV haven't been counted.

This sort of hyperbole is unhelpful. North Korea is totalitarian. Nazi Germany was totalitarian. The Soviet Union was totalitarian. Criticising the government could get you executed, or imprisoned in a far away forced labour camp for a long

Why is it trying to submit to Reddit? Why do I have to enter a title, why not just a url?

I'm confused about how this works. You add a line to my outgoing e-mails. This contains a link to a charity, and boasts about how many people have seen/clicked this link, but doesn't name the charity or give any real reason to follow the li

Why does this organisation sell books? Is it to earn money which they can spend on their true purpose? Is it to spread the message contained in the books? A bit of both? If the point is to spread the message, why use a technology whose only

The amount of coin change is the remainder left over after dividing the total change by a dollar. Thus although the total change may or may not obey Benford's Law, the coin change certainly doesn't.

The change may be more than a dollar, so tens of cents is not necessarily the leading digit.

That is against sgml syntax, yes. There must be at least one height / width / pixel density descriptor for each url, so if you see a comma before the url ends, you know it must be part of the url.

AIUI, all software should interpret it as an ipv4 address, because the first character in the tld is a digit. www.example.42 should result in failure without a dns lookup for the same reason. (I know, sarcasm doesn't travel well online.)
