A zero tolerance policy for ads, PR, and non-free software. It doesn't have to be law, you can do it for your own life. You will suffer some but it's worth it.

The worst thing you can do to your kids if you want them to program is give them a "smart" device. Part of what drew me into programming at 11 was the realization that I could modify some of the most fundamental behavior of my com

I was (very) mildly interested in it until it got spammed into Firefox. Now it exists in the same category as Norton Antivirus in my mind. I stopped paying attention to what they were doing around then. It probably actually has some decent

Personally I far prefer the CLI even on a touch screen because I don't get controls popping/sliding/whizzing underneath my fingers when I'm trying to do something else.

That's not necessarily true. Instead of just suspending you can make "suspend" a runlevel which includes a service that periodically wakes the phone up so apps can manage connections to servers that might push data to them. I

Did they ever fix the modem disappearing on suspend? I have the latest kernel (as of a month ago) and a build of bitkorgii's modem firmware from last year but I still need to reboot the phone every time I pull it out to check my texts.

I liked Adlemen's genetic computing paper. It had tons of jargon and references but was only ~ two pages long. It's a super dense two pages if you're new to molecular biology though. I think that's what most academic wri

With the censorship on DuckDuckgo I've noticed Yandex's video search is actually pretty decent and searches not just YouTube but many other video platforms as well.

I kept all of my clocks on daylight time this winter. I never had the jolt in the fall and won't have it in the spring, even when I'm sick or hungover I sleep in and still get up in time for work.
