Haha, you are so on point! I was born in Eastern Europe and raised in Canada. Recently I moved to Southern Europe and had the audacity to criticize some practices. I was almost nuked from the orbit and all of the perceived faults were vehem

One great benefit of UUIDs I have found is inability to join a wrong row. If you use incremental numbers, every table has 1, 2, 3.

What’s the chance Phylum created those packages?

You are so right! I was just in Munich and had some of the most confusing experience in any public transport system I’ve ever used. And I’ve seen many! It was so shocking. The UIs of the ticket machines are horrendously slow and confusing.

I’ve toyed around with Cube and it’s certainly a solid and mature product! My only gripe was the cube definition. It uses a weird JS-like DSL, but not real JS. You can’t use any packages or anything. Feels like a strange limitation. Also la

Not only flea markets. The problem was so ubiquitous that sellers would walk in traffic and sell CDs with data to drivers.

Ha remember that too! It’s basically just keeping the socket open and continuously streaming a response. As if it’s just a slow download. It’d also send heartbeat null values to keep the connection open. Of course in the CGI days that reall

Putting 0 value used to be a bad idea, as it was a signal to the browser and various ad blockers and anti viruses that it was a rogue redirect. Wonder if it’s different these days?

So it got worse in the last couple of years just as the whole world was on pause. So maybe it’s not caused by humans then?

You can still find plenty of amazing vehicles, in great condition in the South of Europe. The weather there is great and cars don’t deteriorate as much. I see plenty of Toyotas and Hondas from pre 97 models. They still cost around 3-4 K EUR

But do you have any examples of how to do this? I am a pretty seasoned dev, but never trained a model before :)

Do you have any examples on how to train a model that can write code but in a specific domain? Eg I only want to train it on a specific set of code. Eg let’s say functional React components in TypeScript.

Totally agree. I’m in Portugal now and it’s even more shocking here. It’s €9 for a cheeseburger menu. Meanwhile I can get a menu meal at a local joint for €6.50. And it’s about the same size, much healthier and even had Coke Zero in a glass

The lady in the intro paragraph would be shocked to learn that Danes leave their babies to sleep outside in a stroller, in midst of the winter, meanwhile they are enjoying a coffee or buying something indoors. To be clear, I think that’s aw

As much as devs like to moan about AWS and it’s “problems” it is by far the best cloud out there. The moat is so vast that I really doubt any current provider will ever catch up. Also we don’t know what they have in the works in terms of in

I think you could say exactly the same story about Canada. And imagine many other countries soon. Interest rates will spoil the party.

It’s probably a strategy. They overwhelm you with choice. So you end up with some simple heuristic like more expensive is better. Get something middle of the pack and you are still overpaying 200%.

Just wait until the RE bubble collapse and we’ll see. There’s a ton of mortgage fraud not to mention the risk of defaults. Everyone is so strained.

Have you used EdgeDB in prod? I’m itching to try it, but am too worried about general instability. Seems like too many moving parts. Love the DX though, it’s really clean and well thought out.
