I’d love a way to enforce other resource limits as well - cpu, for example. And maybe also a “maximum rate of pixel change” to kneecap the inevitable end-runs around autoplay being disabled.

I’m probably in a minority but I consciously and intentionally penalize ads that bypass my psychotic-level blocking. Getting me to notice their ad will cost them, I make sure of it with vindictive fervor.

I have literally never done so. I have, however, mentally blacklisted brands that had obnoxious ads, and I have always had a really low threshold for that determination.

In the formula “just do X”, the problem isn’t so much the “X”, it’s the “do”, for the reasons outlined by the GP comment. In this particular case, the notion that Medicare works at all (let alone well) is a point that about half the country

The problem is that this precision comes at the expense of the vast majority of people’s ability to comprehend the agreements they are entering into. In these cases, I would argue the contracts should be void because there is no “meeting of

It also claimed Apple removed 7000 SuperMicro servers in a few weeks. That seems especially unlikely to happen without at least some explanations to upper management. Sure, they could lie to management about why but either way management

I just spent a day eviscerating my 2012 unibody MacBook Pro to replace its keyboard and battery. It’s a little depressing to think that after over 2 decades of using Apple hardware and software it will probably be the last thing I ever buy

I wonder if people from other constituencies called Sen. Wyden’s offices en masse to thank him, would that news get around to the other offices and maybe get some attention?

It seems like the main problem is that the compiler doesn’t know the specific target it will run on. We actually do have our smart-enough compilers. They just come in the form of microcode that we can’t audit or even opt out of because the

Arguably, the reason for Spectre, etc., is that people have failed to realize that at the scale of modern intel CPUs, these problems already are distributed systems problems.

Those taxes are a cost of doing business in the state - akin to the rent on a property. If nobody wants to rent your property at your asking price, you can let it sit empty and get zero, or lower your price and get more than zero. You are n

I imagine those loud objectors would take issue with the idea that the government is "literally just US" - it's much more literally a small minority of us who are deciding on behalf of us what we are to do with our resources.
