Yes exactly! The best boss I ever had explained his job like this (and yes probably some ego stroking in there): "You guys are like a rock band. You're the stars. You need to show up, practice, and play gigs on schedule. I'

Not the parent, but we pay between $1,000-$1,500 per month per employee (annually $12,000 - $18,000) for medical. We do pay 100% for great coverage for their whole families, so I'm sure many companies are paying less, but it adds up f

I love the idea of this, but am not sure how this works when you have things like on-call rotations, support hour coverage, unpleasant tasks that need doing (late night deployments, etc...). If you let everyone self manage, and no one is h

I highly recommend RescueTime to give you real data on your computer habits, both hours in front of the screen, and a real breakdown of work vs. wasting time vs. entertainment, etc... It has led to a conscious change in how I spend time on

I was trying out GitLab EE and ran into some install issues on RHEL5 (which were solvable - http://www.digitalsanctuary.com/tech-blog/general/installing... ). However even after a couple days I was unable to get

Not really. I used Kozmo for instant gratification deliveries of ice cream and video games. Maybe they offered scheduled delivery of dry goods too?

Did you read what Mailpile is doing? Basically making PGP easy to use which solves the lions share of the issues at stake here with the NSA and your complaints.

I'm not sure I agree with either of your points. Sticky sessions with in app/JVM/whatever RAM session objects is much faster than pulling from memcache/redis and parsing/deserializing/instantiating the session

Apache and nginx both have an array of good LB algos. I've never seen IP-based LB or hot-spots really. Most app servers support session replication/backup to other node(s). This is really standard stuff in JBoss for instance (m

Or use sticky sessions and keep the session state server side... Much faster than rebuilding session state for every request (whether from a cookie or from a DB), especially the more complex your app and session state become.
