The claim that IE is legit hinges on the diffs causing a valid bug in IE's optimization code (e.g. deadcode inside deadcode prevents the latter being optimized out), versus foul play in the engine (a hard-coded case for this benchmark). Can

Yeah, I should definitely put these in a cookie - it's amazing how many blind spots you have about your own work!

There should be 5 popular games shown, with Like / Dislike buttons, for this very purpose. Is this not working, or just not obvious enough?

Don't take a cofounder just because pg tells you you'll need one; his advice, while awesome , doesn't always apply to bootstrapped startups. People like to draw a distinction between funded and bootstrapped startups, including me ( http://

This is a call for balance. Not testing at all is not a productive use of resources either.

High bang for buck is definitely key. I wonder if the differing points of view really come from different kinds of development - consulting vs product development.

I like TDD, but it has its place. I think you'll find the rhetoric here is a reaction to the inflammatory tone in the article more than anything else. It's perfectly possible to develop and maintain large, complex systems without 100% code

I've a 2 year old son. A lot of comments about sleeplessness and being on call 24/7 stop applying after a few months, when a baby sleeps through the night. I find I have less time in front of the computer, but more motivation and inspiratio

This is a shame. I wish the team all the best, but I can't see them pulling this off. I hope I've misunderstood, but it sounds like they want to: 1. Refactor a ton of code (this is not much fun, as you're just breaking things and fixing n

It's an easy mistake to make - when you come from a Java or C# background one of the most striking things about Python and Ruby code is the use of first-class functions . Not everybody knows that there's more to a functional language than

Is that somehow more your own fault than when, after months of ignoring the strange popups that appear when windows starts up, your virus-ridden computer finally grinds to a halt and fails to boot?

No. I thought about Directed Edge, but playing with recommendation algorithms was the raison d'etre of the project. I didn't want to make a web site and throw some amazon referral links at it, I wanted to play data miner!
