Spark plugs triggered by an ignition coil and a distributor (AKA what cars were doing 100 years ago) is an arrangement that logically should produce so much interference, I struggle to think how modern electronics can top it.

I don't think the compute time varies that much with the length of the password being hashed for these cost-oriented hash functions.

It's bad news for anyone who wants to buy a solar panel, because they'll be joining the thundering herd of people generating energy when the energy price is negative and there's too much generation in the grid already, and th

Although you could say the same about an "English accent" as well. Which particular part of England do you want this accent to be from? For example, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tb63PdPweDc is a fine example of

Just a PSA - I (and probably others) find the "Sign in with Google" pop-over extremely annoying. It annoys me both because it's over the top of stuff I might want to read, and also because it's Google threatening to tell

The controller did something so incredibly bizarre and outrageous that I finally saw what they were doing, and I could never un-see it. Others had spoken truth to me a few times over the years, but recognised that they couldn't change

I think you're probably right. I came to the opinion a while ago that one of the very best things you can do to help someone who is a victim of a controlling relationship is to tell them things that are indisputably true in such a way

People who are the victims in a controlling relationship will usually say things that the controller wants them to say, even when the controller is not there. Ask me how I know.

"Tap to cancel" - I have had that a few times. It is very explicitly illegal in my country, with harsh penalties if caught. So yeah, Google, perhaps stop asking us to break the law?

I remember maybe 10 years ago seeing a news article about Microsoft having developed a system that uses a camera at both the top and the bottom of a screen, which can then build a 3D model of your face and reconstruct a video in real time o

It's quicksort, but neglecting a load of the work that quicksort would normally have to do. Instead of recursing twice, leading to O(nlogn) behaviour, it's only recursing once.

The whole paying for charging thing needs to die a painful and fiery death. I have a universal (money) charging card in my wallet - it was issued by my bank. There should be nothing else required to pay for charging a car up. Same with park

The article states that the CPU has a limit of 4 instructions per cycle, but the sum2 method issues 5 instructions per cycle. Presumably one of them (maybe the increment) is trivial enough to be executed as a fifth instruction.

Yes, the difference is that if the computer running mosh client crashes (or runs out of battery without you realising), then you lose the ability to re-connect with the mosh server, which is where screen or tmux win.

I have had my phone for 4.5 years. I charge it every night to 80% - I have Accubattery installed, so it pings to tell me to unplug it, and it also does a fairly decent job of measuring the capacity. I charge on a fast charger (10W) instead
