If you're eventually going to hit the upper limit of a single machine, have you really gained that much? Eventually you'll have to figure out a way to coordinate between processes, because some will be running on other nodes.

Javascript doesn't really conflate arrays and hashes in the way PHP does. It uses the same bracket syntax for both, but you either instantiate an array or a hash. I don't think that allowing you to iterate over a hash as if it were an arra

Agreed that it's nearly impossible to generally parse web pages now, though if you're screen scraping it's still pretty easy (if not easier than before) to pull out data. Before you had to parse the DOM; now you can often get structured da

I think he's saying that it makes scraping harder. But today JS frameworks like jQuery give us the means to do anything we want javascript-related, in any browser that half-supports javascript. By deprecating IE7 they're just saying they'r

Yeah, it's unfortunate that when your clean but inefficient code falls over, the engineering department takes all of the blame. But when your efficient but unclean code doesn't allow you to iterate as quickly, it's harder to place blame.

Do assets in public/ break in 3.1? Sure, it's encouraged, but I'm pretty sure if you tell your web server to point to public/ it will serve your static assets from there. As far as I know you can upgrade your existing rails app from 3.0 to

It wasn't a rewrite. The point of TDD-assisted refactoring isn't to not change anything ever, it's to change things in a controlled way and prevent regressions. It was actually pretty interesting to watch carlhuda and the rails team take r

I imagine the reason they were not known for restaurants and nightlife is that it was mostly offices and traders left at the end of the business day. As more people start living there, we're slowly getting more restaurants and bars.

It's a bit different to have Google begin competing with you, unless you've built your product on Google's APIs. If you're competing with your provider, you're probably not on an even playing field. They can use internal APIs or just compl

This would require a server-side component, as the browser has cross-domain limitations and couldn't generate arbitrary network traffic anyway. You could tunnel through websockets, however.
